Google software solutions engineer vs software engineer at other companies.
I have 4 years of industry experience as software engineer. Thinking of switching now. Have 3 offers. 1 offer from google and 2 offers from other companies in Silicon Valley. Google was a no brainer for me, however the problem is google offering me role of software solutions engineer and not core SWE. The 2 other companies offering core SWE roles Total compensation also almost similar for all 3 companies. I am in a dilemma now as to which offer to choose. Want to go ahead with google because it’s GOOGLE. However working as a software solutions engineer for few years might impact my chances of moving to a SWE role later on. I wanna pursue tech lead and architect roles 5-7 years down the line. Any advice? Suggestions?
I'm used to the solutions engineer role being more sales oriented. Lighter dev in nature. But not all out sales. At least in other companies. Wonder if that holds true for Google or if it will be externally perceived that way.
Do you want to become more technically or business orientated? That's your answer.
I want to be more technically oriented. Want to climb up the ladder on the technical side.

Too vague. Depends what the other companies are.
The 2 other offers are from Salesforce and Tinder. Both SWE roles.
OP - How hard was to get noticed by recruiter and invited for an interview for this role?
Which one did you end up choosing? I am on the same spot as you were. The only difference is I have got SDE - II at Microsoft in Cosmos DB team while Google is offering me Software Solutions Engineer position at mid level.

My friend who did the Solutions Engineer interview at Google for FizzBuzz and HTML questions, if your interview was similar, I’d say take the other offers because you probably won’t be coding much. If your interview had more/harder coding questions, then go for it and apply for an internal transfer in a few years to core SWE
Yeah. My interview involved lot more coding than this, easy to medium level questions though. Also involved system design questions in one of the rounds. The manager claims this role requires 70-75% coding.
Take it, it’s Google! When it’s time to transfer, you’ll probably have a better chance from the inside, assuming the code you’re going to be committing as a Solutions Engineer is solid.
