People who like Modi, are you okay with your countryās leader using words like āinfiltratorsā for a community?
I know people are hating Sundar for all the layoffs and taking away their dream of a - "Retirement Home / Coasters Paradise". But I am in full support of what he did. Even with 2X headcount during pandemic, the Product quality from Search to Youtube to Maps is lot worse than it was before pandemic. Google has been losing the AI war in all fronts. There is no other way to send a hard message to the Googlers that this needs to change. When Satya became CEO in 2014, the first thing he did was the biggest layoff in Microsoft history and get rid of lot of coasters. He continued these layoffs till 2018 when Microsoft stock really picked the momentum. At Meta, we have clearly seen the impact of layoff both on stock and internal working style (coasters are hunted down rigorously, empire builders are gone). Sundar is copying what Satya and Zuck did to bring back the get-shit-done culture and get rid of bureaucracy. Why does a Privacy/Security/Compliance review takes months to launch a simple feature and requires an army of TPMs to execute. I will just Buy Google stock at this point. With every trimming of the Fat / rigorous PIPs, I will just buy even more of the Google stock. Google cannot beat my comp otherwise, I would have seriously considered joining the company if the Coasters are out. TC - 800K https://www.theverge.com/2014/7/17/5911785/microsoft-job-cuts-2014
Ok metamate
That happened at msft in 2014. It was mostly Nokia employees.
It repeated every year till 2018.
Newsom beats everyone in layoffs. When he was the Mayor of San Francisco (in 2010) he sent layoff notices to all city employees (except essential workers, i.e., police, fire and EMS) - 15k out of 26K employees. And unions couldnāt do anything: https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/15-000-S-F-workers-given-layoff-notices-3271246.php
Yes, Google is bloated and doesn't get anything done. No, signaling to core staff that layoffs are going to be a cultural tenet going forward is not a particularly wise business move.
Clickbait loser. Find some new articles than 2014
Article headline gave me a half stroke
What level are you at?
In my group they laid off an entire team. So it had nothing to do with performance or coasters.
This is performance of an empire builder Senior IC who decided to build a useless product.
