long story short, i got an offer for a PGM role with Google for SF. I would be relocating to the US for this role from Canada. unfortunately a few weeks ago, we heard back from the immigration consultant that my tn visa was unsuccessful and they had to rescind my offer and rematch for a team locally or in Europe/ Asia office wnd then do a transfer to US after a year. There are absolutely no teams hiring right now in Canada and havnāt had any luck with European/ Asian offices. not sure if anyone has been in this scenerio before, but any advice is appreciated. my recruiter is amazng and has been actively updating me on status, but feeling especially anxious and stressed now especially since Iāve already left my last work place š tc: 250k
Oh man, thatās tough. I would start looking for other job at this point. Are you in tech or non-tech?
Tech
So, in Google, the T/Pgm to SWE ratio is on the low side compare to other company IMHO. If US is out of the question, the location you can get match reduce significantly. So work with your recruiter and donāt get picky with team. It may be a long process. Get some cloud skill in the mean time because I heard most new headcount went to cloud this year.
First kudos Scotiabank to google is quite a jump. Second on what basis was the TN rejected? I did not know this was a thing.
In 2018, 11% of the TN petitions were denied. So, yes, itās a thing.
Citing education. I graduated with a humanities degree. I didnāt know what I wanted to do in school š¤·š»āāļø
Scotiabank, did the immigration give you the reason why it got denied? If it's just wording mistakes in the paperwork maybe a lawyer can help?
PGM role with TN... It will all depends if the role can be fitted in āManagement Consultantā. And that classification is into increase scrutiny because it was often misused.
Says itās education related. They wonāt let me use my own local lawyer to help.
Torontoās startup scene is red hot, you can easily find work there especially if you are Google worthy! Youāll be ok!
I actually turned down 2 opportunities for the google role, so now I donāt know if I should crawl back š but Iād hate to start interviewing again. I feel so rusty now. š

You left your work before things are confirmed? That's a junior mistake. Keep interviewing. Don't count on Google. Find a job and earn immediately. Drive Uber or whatever. Don't eat into your savings if you don't have to.
Was extremely unhappy, and took a risk tbh. Who knew tn rejection was a thing, especially given google is such a big company.
Itās not about company. Immigration officers must analyse petitions independently of the employer. Every big company always have their share of visa denials.
