Im deciding between internships at Google or Facebook, and I'd appreciate any guidance! My pros and cons are just my impression, correct me if I'm wrong with anything. Google Pros: More prestigious I believe in the product(s) Cons: Seems like a very lax environment Still have to host match (pretty sure I'll get a group though) Burocratic Full time conversion interviews Facebook Pros: More intense/more impact/learning Heard I have better odds of shipping stuff to prod Better perks Insane return intern offer Cons: What have they really innovated on in the last 10 years lol? Politically rocky
Do you have offers from both? If so, what are those?
Facebook is 8k/month + housing Google is 7.5k/month + 9k for housing I don't have the Google offer letter yet, will get it after my host match is confirmed.
Your more likely to get return offer from FB then google. At least that's my impression, I may be wrong. Promotion will happen mich faster it you join fb full time. You can be E5 in 3 years at fb with hard work. Very difficult to get L5 at google in that time frame. WLB much worse at FB. Alot of dumb fb cult policies.
Fb
Get fb offer for internship, and then try to -- get a return offer and then apply to Google for full time, as soon as recruiter reaches out tell about the fb offer, get direct onsite and if you get offer, join Google, also good chance of increasing TC as you have competing offer...part of the reason is Google conducts interview even after internship, so you might have to be in that mode even at the end of the internship when interviews might take place, which would not be the case at fb.
Former FB intern here. Go to FB. Get the GE offer (FB doesn’t low ball return interns like google) and then get the google offer and negotiate. That is what I did this year and I’m very happy I went to FB over G. Also “more prestigious” for google is not really a pro, FB is equivalent-you’ll have no trouble getting interviews senior year with FB on your resume
FB. Easier to get a return offer, and FB is generally better for earlier career growth.
Have you got a host interview yet? How long have you been in host matching already?
What are the better perks at Facebook ? Don't u consider poor wlb to be a con at FB ? My frnd works 6 days a week and still he says it's not sufficient.
Seems like food, intern events, etc. are better at FB, though not a big factor. I think work hard environment is a pro, since I want to grow more at this point in my career.
You are thinking in the right direction OP. Go for FB now. If you don't like it, try Google next time. Then you will be in a better position to decide.
