I have offers from Google and Snap both for L4 position. I am not considering other offers atm as their tc is quite lower than both. Google (Seattle) 160k(Base)/105k(Stock)/20k(Sign on)/25k(Perf Bonus) = ~310k TC Snap (Seattle) 160k(Base)/178k(Stock)/16k(Perf Bonus) = ~355k TC I liked the team and the work that they are doing at Snap. Not sure what team I will match to at Google. Considering long term stability and growth which offer seems like a better option? Would like to hear other people's opinion too who had similar offers and why they chose one over the other. TC: 200 YOE: 5
you can get your numbers even before you match to a team. compensation process is different than team match
tell your recruiter you have a competing offer and then they will speed up the process and might share numbers before team match.same thing happened with me too
Snap since Google TC drops to 290k after a year due to one time signon. Or average out signon to 4 years and your TC is 295k
How was your interview experience at Snap?
it was pretty good. All the round went well imo
I mean the difficulty level for coding and system design? Congrats on the offers though! Both are solid.
I think Snap has more upside. Google is a safer bet in a good way and in a bad way as well. Safer in a bad way because Snap has room to grow quicker than Google And safer in a good way because Google is a more stable company. If you don't love Amazon's PIP, know that Snap actively manages their talent to promote top talent and remove the bottom ranked ones. Not sure how the policy is for google, but I'd imagine it isn't as bad?
does Snap has mandatory pip like Amazon? Not a huge fan of stack ranking simple because it makes the environment toxic. I understand that Snap has more potential to grow however the risk is also more there.
I worked at Snap, but not as a manager to tell you 100% sure they have forced quotas. What I can tell you is there times people were fired left and right on bad quarters, then people who got fat refreshers on good years I'd rather work at Amazon because at least you have some idea how the system works. As Snap, the HR tools are still under development, so the management is more subjective.
Is this after negotiation?
yes, after negotiation
Google definitely. Having google under your belt opens up a lot more opportunities that's worth more than 50k. If the difference was huge then it'd be a different story
without sign on google offer gets even lower from 2nd year onwards. I already have Amazon in my resume, does Google adds much more value on top of it than Snap?
Well imo, having Amazon vs having google on resume is two very different things. Infact having both is a lottery ticket for your career trajectory. Stay for 2 years and move into head of engineering or something in a unicorn with your expertise if you want fast growth
