Why is it so G*damn difficult to move money out of India
Work 100 hours/week to get off PIP.
Is this a serious advice? Or just kidding?
I’d take it as serious advice. If you’re the quality of engineer to get on pip, your odds of getting a job nearly this good in this market are 0. Your only shot to keep it is by putting in unreal hours, and beyond just working committing to self improvement during that time for long term success. It sucks, but long term putting in that kind of time now is worth it. This is predicated on the basis that you’re capable of doing the job. I’ve seen engineers hired during the hiring boom who are flat out incapable of being an SDE. If you’re in that bucket no amount of time will fix it. So do an honest self assessment then decide
Work harder
I don’t think that’s helping, I got good rating in Feb 2023 review and then in March when I ask for my i140 process they piped me.
1. Stop working, you already know you’re getting laid off in 2 months. 2. Spend work time applying for new roles 2.5 While applying for jobs hone your skills and practice interview prep. 3. Hopefully get any job that’s willing to sponsor your visa and keep you in your current country.
Who’s laying the pipe?
OP's manager
All depends on if this is a real pip (your performance is actually subpar) or if they are just doing this to get rid of people without looking like a layoff You’ll have to hunt for a new job anyway so just apply as much as you can while you can.
Agreed
If he got meets expectations in February and they didn't raise issues then, then it seems like they just want to manage him out instead of doing a layoff with severance.
Update Resume, prepare and start giving interview.. Don't yet resign until they let you go
Congratulations on getting PIPED! Thanks for coming out
Judgment free zone
Risk vs reward game- You have to think what % chances if you work your ass off to get saved from pip vs you applying outside and not giving a shit about the work
This. Have an honest conversation with your manager about the likelihood of succeeding the pip. Ask for general metrics of how often they have pipped in the past and the distribution of outcomes. If your manager isn't forthcoming with this info then this is just a mechanism to get rid of you. Also gather metrics on your performance vs others on the team, lines of code, cr/PR count, design document count etc... Figure out objectively where you stand. Once you have that info you need to do some real self reflection to decide which path is better.
Pip was an amazon thing. Now the virus is spreading fast
No, managing out low performers had always been there. You think other places were happy to keep paying low performers?
PIP culture started in GE in the 90s with Jack Welch. GE finally found out fear-based leadership wasn't great but the company was already falling apart when they took action to fix it.
Dude .. help or stay quiet .. people leave bad managers .. not company .. so may be bad people did this .. be supportive
People like you cause the chaos in other's lives .. piped or left .. does not matter .. either help or ignore the post .. One small negative comment can ruin a day or may be a life .. be kind man .. it costs nothing ..
