I have 15+ years of work experience in tech and an MBA, I worked in Financial Services (JPM & Vanguard) before taking 8 years off to be home w/kids, back to work now 4.5 years and I’m still under market (even after a recent 15% salary bump). I really want to start looking for a new role but now companies are in a hiring freeze and I’m worried about job security… do I look and apply or wait a few months?
You should start looking. Will be harder with all the folks looking at the same time but you’ll get some practice anyways and if you get a job…great!
are you swe? mba is useless and adds no value. the fact that you just say you “work in tech” but dont even state what your role or what you actually do makes me believe you’ve just been grifting for 15 years and you’re trying to find your next grift
Agreed Advice: go to big consultancies
@CFK: like big4? Or Indian consultancies lol
Start looking now, get some practice in.
Tc or gtfo
Congrats on coming back to the work fam! Ok, apply now would be my advice. A lot of companies, not just tech firms are being picky with new hires lately. Start applying, plug stories for LinkedIn and talk with recruiters, lastly chase TC for what you need+10%. The market is a dumpster fire 🔥 Lastly, find a role that will work with your family needs, a lot of non elite employers are die hard work 60+ hours a week right now with no one buying anything. Best of luck 🤞
I’m fully remote 45-50 hours now… good for family to be home FT as it definitely helps
Agreed, there is a strong push to get people back in office though, just be aware of that. Same for hybrid roles, a lot of bait and switch tactics too.
My undergrad was a Bachelors of Science, Fin/MIS… I was a programmer for barely 2 years and was pulled into Project Management. Spouse is an L7 at AWS so I am not the breadwinner BUT I am seeing all the salaries here and realizing I need a new gig for better pay. I was told to join this group from a female mentor who is at MSFT
MBA and finance? Are you really in tech? You should stick with the banks
Yes I spent entire first part of my career to age 35 in financial services, stated hoke with kids and have been in media since 2018
I finished my MBA in 2005, not sure it matters anymore ;)
Well don’t worry so much but start looking The fact that your spouse is an L7 should be giving you some liberty to be picky about your next job as your family income must be decent And oh yes .. your spouse and kids are lucky to have you , the fact that you decided to take off work to take care of them !
What’s this TC looking like?
My base is $120k, bonus should be 10%, 401k match is 4%, no RSU’s, I don’t collect benefits since spouse carries for family
