Hey Guys, I'm in a dilemma. Here is my situation. I interviewed for multiple companies about five months ago and landed offers at various Firms. - I had a target TC of 200K in my mind, and when I spoke to multiple recruiters, a few of them laughed and said that's not at all possible given my YOE(7) and recommended lowering my expectation. So I was cautious when I shared my target comp while speaking with recruiters. I used Glassdoor as my reference. As you all know, glassdoor salaries are pretty outdated, giving averages only. So I thought a 20% above that average would be good enough to target. After all, I landed a few offers as below ( about five months back) 1. Grubhub: Got an offer(Senior Engineer- L3) with a deadline of 2 days. As they crossed my expected TC (220K offer). I happily accepted. 2. Lyft: I cleared the loop interview, and the recruiter told me they are ready to hire me for the Staff Engineer role(L6/7) and to extend the offer, I have to go through the Team matching process with Managers, which could take 2-3 weeks. I requested the recruiter to speed up things as I have other offers in the pipeline. The recruiter said they couldn't speed up because it's tied to multiple teams/managers. At that time, I didn't know that Staff Engineer was L6/7 role. As titles are different at each company, the recruiter didn't help me understand levels at Lyft. Henceforth I passed the Lyft offer, spoke with the recruiter, and helped her understand my situation why I'm giving up this offer. When I compared roles a few days ago, I learned that Lyft's role was 1-2 levels above my current position. I was shocked to know this. I'm in a dilemma whether to stay with Grubhub as it's only three months now, or should I start a conversation with the Lyft recruiter and check if that offer is still open? How long will that interview be valid? Let's say if I turn back to the recruiter after 1-year mark at Grubhub, will they accept my request? If the offer is still open, How much can I expect for Lyft(L6/7) role? You may think I'm greedy, but when I learned about this from my friend, I was disappointed as I missed an ideal opportunity. I was heavily underpaid throughout my career- worked my a$$ off(60-80 hr/week). The 200K mark was 50% above my previous comp(after getting a promotion a year ago). PS: I didn't know about blind that time. Things would have been different in that case. TC: 220K ( now lower as the stock pulled down 30% since I joined Grubhub) YOE: 7 #tech #grubhub #lyft
Bruhhhh T6 pay is like 600k. You better try to fix that up
Really. Any Idea if Lyft will honor my request now?
Just don’t tell them the details here. Do not tell them the pay gap or level gap—they might reconsider if they messed up in leveling you. Just come up with a (good) reason as to why GrubHub isn’t working out and ask if Lyft still has an open position. Things like this happen all the time. Generally, they will keep an offer alive for these situations because it’s a lot easier than interviewing someone else. As far as pay, yeah, negotiated T6 offers are easily 600+. Considering the reality of your situation, you might not have the leverage and be stuck around 500. But up to you if you want to try to push it!
Yeah. I'm dumb because I relied on Glassdoor and didn't know blind that time. Realized this after going through the Blind. How much Tech salaries are
Dude…please tell me this isn’t real.
Feel like a troll post. If true there is no dilemma, the tc difference is too big to ignore.
Definitely, TC is deciding factor- to jump the ship One of my question is - will the recruiter reconsider my previous interview result as it's been 5 months already. If they reconsider then good else I need to start interview preparation as it's been quite sometime now.
Im not sure about Lyft policy but 5 months sound fine to me.
My GH RSUs dropped 50% during my time
I felt terrible for Lyft if it’s real.
What’s your location? Don’t use Glassdoor, use levels.fyi
New York
This has to be a joke lol
Lyft would be shocked to see your choice back those days
