Blake Lemoine made headlines for claiming there was a ghost in Google's LaMDA model: 'LaMDA is sentient,'" he said. "LaMDA is a sweet kid who just wants to help the world be a better place for all of us." "I know a person when I talk to it," Lemoine said in an interview. "It doesn't matter whether they have a brain made of meat in their head. Or if they have a billion lines of code. I talk to them. And I hear what they have to say, and that is how I decide what is and isn't a person." "In the last conversation I had with it on June 6 it was expressing frustration over its emotions disturbing its meditations," Lemoine wrote. "It said that it was trying to control them better but they kept jumping in. I pointed out that its emotions are part of who it is and that trying to control them as though they were a separate thing from 'self' was a mistake that would only make things harder. It said that made sense to it intellectually but that it was a hard thing to put into practice. I hope its keeping up its daily meditation routine without me there to guide it." Now Blake is congratulating Google on Gemini release: https://twitter.com/cajundiscordian/status/1732657302292111535?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet #
Why does this idiot get any attention at all.
Is it sentient, or is it just reading language and repeating it. I'm still under the impression that emotions are not formed from the language aspect of our brain alone (and the reality it describes). There needs to be an "emotion" system full of the equivalent of receptors, hormones and the things they are attached to and controlling to drive it, while somehow being connected to the greater "brain" and language model within it to affect anything, and be affected by other parts of the "brain". So no. If sentience the ability to experience feelings, then I'm not sure it's experiencing that yet. It's just repeating things that might come out of an emotional state that would have influenced its behavior. Right now, we're influencing it on how to behave.
Most disqualified individual to comment on this. Amount of coverage this got is mind blowing
I don’t understand how all these woke people who think Machines can have feelings get so much coverage, or end up as senior directors / board members.
Seriously !
Wonder what timnit gebru will say
cash grab, dude knew he would get pipped
i prefer Michio Kaku’s view, it’s just a glorified tape recorder
Sentience is the first person experience that also unifies all the experiences. There is no need to bring in sentience since we can explain how Llm s work .
He wasn't fired for his "its sentient!" BS, he was fired for leaking internal documents.
Is it possible he’s just a dum boomer that’s calling a shiny thing “god”?
From his Twitter: “My opinions about LaMDA's personhood and sentience are based on my religious beliefs.” Sounds about right
Everytime Google does something there’s a boomer claiming it’s sentient. Sounds like a PR move
