H1B WA Cares Exemption

Hi. I am on H1B visa and have been paying premiums to TransAmerica since last year. Since non immigrants are now exempted from it, did anyone cancel it and get the exemption again for being on H1B ? Did anyone recover the money that was paid previously?

What’s that? Also as H1B you are resident for tax purposes

H1Bs are still non immigrants so exemption applies

If you have paid into the WA Cares Fund and believe that you are eligible for an exemption from the program due to your H1B visa status, you may be able to request a refund of the premiums you paid. To request a refund, you will need to complete a Request for Refund form, which is available on the Employment Security Department's (ESD) website. The form requires you to provide your personal information, employment history, and a statement explaining why you believe you are eligible for a refund. Once the ESD receives your request, they will review it to determine whether you are eligible for a refund. If you are found to be eligible, the ESD will issue a refund for the premiums you paid into the WA Cares Fund. It's important to note that the deadline to request a refund is October 31, 2023. After that date, requests for refunds will not be accepted. If you have any questions about requesting a refund or your eligibility for an exemption, it's recommended that you contact the Employment Security Department directly or consult with a licensed insurance professional.
