H1b Visa transfer @ Google

I will be joining Google as an L5. I am being told the H1B visa transfer process would take 2 months to complete(with premium processing). Is this normal @ Google? The transfer is being processed by BAL. Is there anyone that I can contact(other than the recruiter) to expedite the process? new TC: 476k YOE: 7 #google #workvisa #h1b

What’s the rush?

Microsoft EsSJ13 OP Nov 1, 2021

Need to take some vacation days in Jan. Need it to accrue for couple of months. Don't want to be in a position where I have to take leave when I'm onboarding.

Travel inside the states then lol

USCIS has started to crawl like a snail again for work visas. I won’t be surprised if they soon reach Trump era timelines for approvals of normal cases on premium too. Dems don’t seem to care a lot about employment based visas and with a disastrous mid term looming it’s going to get worse.

Microsoft EsSJ13 OP Nov 1, 2021

Well, once it is filed sure. Here the case hasn't been filed yet.

It's about right, they're just being slightly conservative. Takes about a month and a few days usually, minimum 3 weeks if you're lucky. Slightly under 1 week to get your questionnaire done + file LCA 7-10 days for LCA from department of justice 2-3 days after this minimum to file with USCIS 7-15 calendar days for premium processing Plus whatever time it takes in the mail to get a physical copy of your approval. Not everyone waits for this last one before joining. You pick the higher end of these, plus add a few days delays in case of weekends, holidays etc, and you could hit 40-45 days easily.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Also add additional days for slowdown for New Years thanksgiving and Christmas

I went through this process very recently (September-October). Here is my timeline Day 0 - Accepted offer Day 7 - Questionnaire sent to me by BAL Day 8 - I filled questionnaire and uploaded docs Day 10 - Had a call with the case assistant to go over further process Day 16 - Filed LCA Day 23 - LCA approved. BAL Sent docs to Google for signature Day 31 - Google returned signed docs Day 36 - H1b change of employer petition filed at USCIS Day 37 - Received receipt notice Day 46 - Case was approved Day 53 - Lawyers received I-797 approval notice. They uploaded scanned copy and preparing to send it to me Day 61 (today) - They haven't sent it yet. It took 46 days from when I accepted the offer to getting H1b approval. It could have been more too if USCIS took more time to review my case. You can ask Google to give signed docs back faster and save some time there.

+1, this is pretty detailed. I'm going through this same thing with FB, have the case with USCIS right now. Currently on Day 31, the first few steps got done faster for me. But USCIS seems to be taking slightly longer. My petition was filed on Day 20. I was pretty much getting my questionnaires, extra forms etc done within hours of BAL putting them up.

Is it safe to travel internationally before filing H1 petition or once filed and pending with USCIS? Provided not going to terminate existing employment until I come back to US. Already having valid h1 stamp as well.

Microsoft kvpair Nov 1, 2021

Congrats op!! Are you planning to join before Dec 13th to be eligible for refresher in 2022?

Microsoft EsSJ13 OP Nov 1, 2021

Thank you. I did not know this. 😅

Microsoft kvpair Nov 1, 2021

There is no consensus I guess. And my recruiter in fact mentioned dont count on refresher for first 2 years. But apparently only if you join in last eligible day of Dec 2021 you will become eligible for guaranteed refresher in 2022.

Financial Services Company mc-doodle Nov 1, 2021

I remember the days when premium filings would get you a physical receipt within 10 calendar days. Now Dems and Trumpers have basically made it impossible to get anything under 2 months.

OP you had any competing offers?

Microsoft EsSJ13 OP Nov 2, 2021

No I did not...

First Orion FOsys Nov 2, 2021

@finance I don't know why you are saying approvals for premium processing are slow. Its taking anywhere from 5-13 days. There is a h1b tracker on trackitt website people are getting approvals within 2 weeks.

To me recruiter mentioned I might make it before Dec 20th. That's last day in 2021 when you can join G

Microsoft kvpair Nov 2, 2021

Is Dec 13th not final date? Also which stage of visa transfer are you currently in?

Yet to sign offer. Heard the above from recruiter.
