I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth going through HFT (or similar trading firms) interviews for someone at a staff level at FAANGs, i.e. whether the TC is likely to be higher (compared to staff, or senior staff even). I know it can be variable, so everyone says, but from scouring Blind posts there's a lot of qualitative and very little quantitative data on actual TCs. And the org is apparently a lot flatter, which makes me wonder whether experience really commands any higher TC (and you ever really grow in your role) or it's super performance weighted. As a sample comparison from levels.fyi: Google L6 => 500k L7=>700k Meta L6 => 560k L7 => 900k with usually even more upside since tech stock has been doing great for a long while now. Anyone with actual data points of HFT/hedge fund TC or where to find some? If you can comment on how much it's varied year to year +1 to you. Why not aim for M2 at Meta? They make 1M a year and probably less stressful than a hedge fund
I think E7 is similar comp to M2, and I don't have much management experience, or probably even interest. Any reason you mentioned the management track vs IC? Otherwise I agree with you: M2/E7 level is the competition to HFTs, except it's more aligned with my experience and so probably a better fit. But more math on my job would be fun too, just put off by the potential for high variance in comp, especially if net over several years isn't much better.
You can join as E7 and then horizontally move to M2?
In my limited experience, HFTs throw a lot of cash, but FAANGs wind up making up for it in stock and stock appreciation - at least the way the markets have been going for the last 10 years. A lot of HFT people seem to be going to FAANGs vs. other way around. I am curious what the latest is and what other people's experiences are.
HFT people can invest in stocks too…
Dunno about other places but HRT pays bonuses over 2 years. No appreciation over the time :(
Why bother, just go long GME, RIVN, TSLA, and AMC and you'll do better than any HFT or working for FAANG 💩 📮
How did it work out for you?

Thank you AAPL and NVDA
I’ve heard of SWEs clearing 7 figures with 5-7 YOE, with most of it coming in the form of annual bonuses due to the firm performing well. I would certainly apply.
Any idea how high of a variance this has? Firm doing well one year and you get 1.1M but normally it's 600k is a pretty different experience from a mostly consistent and gradually growing comp you'll get at public tech companies.
2020 & 2021 have been great years for trading but it's hard to say whether the bonuses in these past 2 years are anomalies or the new norm.
