Hello, I just received several offers from different industries as a software engineer. I worked in the HFT industry for 7 years and then moved to crypto development for 3 years. 1. mid-size HFT shop with 200 people, 230k base + non guaranteed bonus (last year range was 100 - 400k), more infra-side job. Full remote 2. small-size HFT firm founded by ex-big HFT lead, 40 people, 250k base + not much guideline for bonus (expecting industry average), some exposure to research side, Hybrid 3. Meta L5 220k base + 130k RSU, guaranteed, Hybrid (Maybe remote available) 4. New crypto mainnet backed by big investors, 220k base + 100k vesting crypto per annum. Full remote. Maybe big jump can be happened after listing to major exchanges. I already have experience in a big HFT shop (either Jump, Tower Research, Citadel, or Two Sigma), so perhaps it's not urgent for me to jump into HFT in this market. However maybe still HFT work would be more interesting. Any thoughts? YoE: 10 #SWE #HFT
Why is long term career option at HFT worse?
What do you mean range was 100-400k. What was it exactly last year?
It depends on the person / team and performance looks like. Lowest person got 50% of the base
Just check sp500 do you think “ this market “ is even relevant anymore??
1. contrary to the price of the s&p, tech recruiting is substantially slower than it was a few years ago, which isn't the best signal 2. once again, contrary to the price of the s&p, word on the street is that several (mostly systematic) trading firms are not doing as well as they did in the past few years. "this market" is definitely a fair qualifier
What hft is full remote
DRW, Akuna. Some very important people can be full remote at most firms.
DRW has moved to remote? That’s interesting news.
Just curious about your past experience, working in big HFT shop, will you get very high comp? Why not go back to big HFT shop
Big HFT doesn't allow me any hybrid / remote work nowadays :(
Is this in operations? These offers are all pretty low.
Infra / software engineers
What happened with Meta? 130k/yr RSU is just 520k stock grant. Last year max was 700k or 800k

I work at HFT for about 10 years. Tech is much better in my experience. Go with facebook. You will be treated better and your long term career option are better.
What about being a quant trader at a hedge fund ?
I had the opposite experience - higher pay, better culture, greater learning opportunities, similar WLB with much lower stress at the HFT firm vs Meta. Not sure why people think tech is better for long term career options.
