I haven't sold a single RSU since joining. But now that essentially makes my portfolio heavily weight into $MDB's performance. But obviously, given the state of the market, I have not sold. Should I sell or continue to HODL until I get a better price than my lock-in price? I do believe in the company and I think it can do well (see our recent earnings!) but this is also following the track of "putting all your eggs in one basket". MongoDB also does ESPP which will always work in my favor... but it will keep adding more weight into $MDB.
Depends on your risk tolerance. If you believe in the company and don’t need the money, then hold. But if being overweight in one stock makes you uncomfortable then sell some and invest the profit in other stocks. A lot of stocks are down right now so you could always put it into other stocks or sectors you believe will grow a lot in the future
Yeah I am fortunate enough to not need the money. I live extremely comfortably off my base salary alone.
Sell espp and ride RSU till it's a bull market
Always sell immediately and reinvest in low-cost index funds. Otherwise you are trying to time the market, and good luck.
Not really trying to time the market. I just feel hopeful for Mongo's future
One exception would be to hold for 1 year to avoid short-term capital gains tax if it applies.
Sell at vest to avoid the minimal gains
I would sell dude. The 2021 tech stock hysteria will never happen again and that’s the only way you would see any upside from your current position.
Never say never
MDB sub $100 next year
Really glad I sold and used the cash for a house or diversified especially when this shit dropped 50% in a year.
Congrats on your new home!
If you had the same amount in cash would you buy MongoDB stocks?
This is a great response! Helped me think with a much better perspective 😄 My answer: I'd definitely have it in my portfolio but I wouldn't own as much as I do now.
If you can stomach it, let it ride! MDB just pivoted to profitability, growth has slowed but is still incredible, great leadership team and is still cheap relative to growth/sales multiple. I started my position earlier this year with MDB and got slaughtered but then doubled it the day of the most recent earnings and got lucky with a 40% rip. If it retraces to the lows, I’ll double it again. I am out of balance in my portfolio with RSUs and espp at NVDA but I’m never selling. If I ever need cash, I’ll just borrow against my shares with my broker and payoff.
