I want to ask about HR future career path. Worked as a HR generalist for couple of years in CA after graduation and I was wondering if HR industry has the future. I love the job and working for the people. My goal is to work in FAANG HR dept. Some of my friends are going to bootcamps and changing their career path to become a IT engineers. They say HR will have less people to work with in the future due to AI and automation. Please share your thoughts on this. Do you think that HR can play a important role in the future? Any career path suggestion for combining IT and HR? What is HR average salary in FAANG? Thank you
I've heard Google hr is very automated and soul crushing for the people there. Sample size of 1 though
I remember back in high school we got to go on a work experience trip for a day. One place we went to was HR at an insurance firm. They asked us if we knew what they did. I said “yes I know. You fire people, right?” They couldn’t seem to explain what else they do that was useful.
I think the opposite. HR will probably be the last to be AI-ified completely because human behavior is so hard to map to objective functions. And a ton of data is coming out indicating how much better performing orgs are when they have positive HR experiences vs not.
Policies like employee engagement, handling complaints, career advice, several policies are ofcourse best done by humans. Maybe current HR sucks in all of these but still humans got a better shot at creating positive environment. Recruiting work will be somewhat automated but I dont see it going away completely
funneling talents is like ads targeting. Algorithmic review does have potential to find right talent in short amount of time.
You will be the first ones to be replaced by AI. Sad but true.
I’m very interested, what was your TC as a generalist? Where at in CA are you?
