Has anyone else experienced their HR department sending out a company-wide email asking employees to reduce vacation time, followed by a message to "enjoy the holidays with your family"? This happened for the first time in my career. Is it common practice to simply "reduce liability," or is it generally indicative of impending layoffs? Curious to know if others have seen similar patterns. #layoff Edit: I should add that the email mentioned is about the company’s strategy to prioritize spending. It’s asking everyone in the company to do their part and reduce our vacation accrual as part of a cost-saving measure.
Not yet, sitting on 5+ weeks at the moment
Blind would turn a good thing like encouraging vacation into a bad thing lol
What a weird email.
The PTO is a balance sheet item. They want you to take it, so they won't have to pay it to you upon layoff along with your severance.
Especially after a few pay bumps
If vacation hour is their biggest line item to make an impact on profit. Then the company is in even bigger trouble then I imagine.
My spouse company sent similar email about the leave policy and after 2 months they had one round of layoff. Crazy things never know what was this about .
My company does a tech freeze at the end of the year, so employees can use up time they accrued but can’t carry over. It also helps with YE budgets.
Crazy times call for crazy emails 👍
