How’s capitalism going?
I switched my job, if that counts. It really helped. My happiness quotient shot up.
What do you attribute that to at your new job?
1. Laid back culture (not super competitive, the talent was average and only the really poor performers got piped) 2. Management valued it's employees so action was taken to work on complaints of the employees. It was not a "just get things done by any means, we only care about revenue" culture. It was a more "we are a team" culture. 3. Better work life balance. Many senior folks were middle aged people with kids. Employees' health, both physical and mental, was valued. Everyone was encouraged to leave on time. Downsides - slow organization, changes took time, not great compensation, slow growth. Overall, my happiness quotient went higher.
Have you considered leaving Google? It’s an extremely stressful place to work.
Is it? Some people on blind say it has good work life balance and is a rest and vest place, after Microsoft.
Is it more stressful than uber which has stack ranking performance system.?
During lunch time, go-to gym, spend 30-40 mins, and take some steam bath, shower and then come back to work energized
What about lunch
Do it on the desk in 5-10 mins, and have protein shake,
Yes. Job before this was a toxic nightmare. So glad I left.
Not exactly career but moved from a top employer to a smaller lesser known company. The work is still very interesting though there is far less pressure and a much better work life balance. I get to play and spend more time with kids along with other physical activities, one sport every now and then. It has done wonders. The only downside is that there isn't huge RSU and TC rat race but that means no stock though a perf based bonus is still there
I quit my job and even change fields (from mechanical engineer to software engineer). Not only do I like my job more I also get paid better
How did you do it?
Just do it?
If they did, I have a sneaking suspicion they just might not be on blind anymore.
I thought about that as I was making this post. I hope to at least capture those who have transferred to other departments.
