I am an SRE/full-stack cloud (I don't work at Intel anymore, and haven't for a while). I am curious if anyone has transitioned to ML. Was it worth it? Did you get a pay bump? What was previously your specialty/experience in? I am taking an ML class program thing, but it is 10 months long and I wonder if I will even finish in time before the ML hype blows over. I remember years back when Android was the big thing teaching myself Android dev and doing all these projects and I never even used it. What is the MLE class you are taking if you donβt mind? Trying to go the same route
How do you know for sure that you will like work you will do as an MLE? It is usually quite different from ML courses you find online in my experience. I you are interested in knowing more about machine learning in industry, you will find machinelearningatscale.com quite interesting! :)
I switched from swe and I am very happy because I like it more. It took 2-3 years for me to onboard. It wasn't very easy but again - totally worth it in my case You probably need to understand statistics better than swe, thinking/hypothesizing more. MLE are in-between software engineering and data science Salary: I don't know but I expect maybe 10% bump - check on levels.fyi if you are doing this for salary - it will be probably lower ROI for you
