I moved to New York for my current job and absolutely hate it here. It’s nice to visit for a weekend or so but living here is horrible. No concept of a car. Parking cost 500+ bucks per month. It’s absolutely dirty. Parts of it are nice sometime and the people who make the case that you take subway everywhere, finding an apartment close to subway isn’t easy. You still have to walk 15 to 20 mins to train station and I’d rather sit in traffic jam than walk to subway and sit with 100 strangers in a subway. Anyone who moved to LA or west coast and can tell me it’s better there? #Nyc #newyork #housing #moving #losangeles #citylife Blind tax: 200k
Why is this a positive? I’d rather sit in my own car for longer rather than sit among crowds of junkies overdosing on heroin and fentanyl, people hacking up a lung with their covid, or thugged out losers pressing people
Cool, then NYC isn’t for you? You can also choose not to move to NYC and sit in your car somewhere else instead. If you moved to NYC to complain about not being able to sit in a car, then that’d be pretty stupid. And it’s really not that bad. SF is way worse.
Nyc with no car is honestly not that bad. Tbh you’ll get used to the mta; you’re kinda shooting your self in the foot by driving daily.
Also CitiBike is dope over short distances. ESP the electric one. And if you must, at night you can Uber. I haven’t needed a car for anything in the city. And if you wanna go camping you just take MetroNorth or make a friend who lives in the suburbs.
Owning a car in the city is some dumb shit.
Correction: All American big cities
Correction: all big cities have this benefit
So you like cars vs walking. Got it.
@dijkstraz is right. I live an hour away from NYC and would never live there. People treat it like a trashcan. I assume he is talking about Manhattan. Yes it is a dirt ball, but that is like all major cities. I am surprised they don't have a quarterly clean up. Second, now the city wants to institute a $23 fee to get to Manhattan. Guess I'll stick to the Bronx, but certain areas are dirty as shit there too.
I moved from San Diego to San Francisco. It was fun going to bars and meeting people. And then it wasn’t. Relocated to San Jose and it was ok for awhile raising kids. Now thinking of moving back to San Diego.
Is there much to do San Diego? Me and my fiancé love going out
They have a small bar scene but it’s really for people who like sun, surf, beaches, softball or over the line tournaments etc. The town is touristy so lots for kids to do. You should visit.
West coast is the best coast. San Diego is way less busier than LA If you’re looking to get away from busy areas.
Does in get boring in San Diego? I’m in late 20s with a fiancé and we both love going out
West side is the best side - Tupac
Who TF drives around nyc?! Especially if you live in NYC. Also you work at BBG which has super easy access with literally a subway underneath the building. Get your head outta your ass lmao
Facts 🤌🏽. Fucking both BBG locations have quick access 42&57th. Also lmao I’m an nyc native and I don’t even drive my car lmao. Utter pratt this OP is lmao. Rather move to LA? Lol cya. Enjoy sitting in traffic 5 hours a day
OPs thread pissed me off because it screams princess every lmao. Btw American Express hiring? Was wondering if down for referral
I don’t understand, with that TC you can definitely find a place much closer to the subway than a 10 to 15 minute walk.
Assuming no pre-tax deductions, that TC is about 10K monthly. After pre-tax deductions (401(k), commuter benefits, FSA, etc), that amount is even lower. To be much closer to the subway, OP would definitely have to be paying close to 4.5K in rent + utilities in average given the current rental housing market in NYC. Not everybody wants to be paying nearly half of their monthly income in rent. Also, perhaps, when they were moving, that was the best they could find. It’s really not easy to find subway-convenient housing these days. Those places are snatched in minutes from when they’re up on any building’s online portal. You have to be a bit lucky.
@silversla you know there are boroughs other than Manhattan right?
LOL someone complaining about the most obvious difference between NYC and LA! *chefs kiss*
LA is the biggest disappointment; it feels a city trying to be a suburb. For a place that prides itself on perfect weather, it’s confusing that it’s been tailored towards cars rather than walkability. Such a missed opportunity for a place with perfect natural setting. When you close your eyes and imagine a city, 9/10 times you think of NYC…for better or worse. It has a ton of flaws, but it ultimately lives up to exactly what city life is all about.
"LA is shitty heaven, NYC is fun hell"
had the same experience in London
London Underground puts the NYC subway system to shame. It’s also nowhere near as dirty.
at least NY has AC. tube is disgustingly moist
