Despite all researches and common practice. I find it very difficult to write or even read code on black / dark theme. Most offices and workspaces are well lit ( sometimes way too much ) I just don’t get it how people can work on dark themes in such environments. Almost ruined my interview on coderpad today 😒. Wondering if I could ask my interviewers to switch themes next time ... Anyone else who faces the same issue ?
Dude not cool ... Do not trivialize the #BlackLivesMatter movement !!!!
Black bg is cool.
Only dumb old people use the light themes
Yes, ask them to switch theme. Or if it’s your browser, use a browser extension to invert the colors.
If you never take your eyes off the editor, or somehow everything you look at is dark then a dark theme is the way to go. But I can't think of a way how to achieve that. The sudden change in contrast between dark editors and light everything else is what would tire your eyes the most.
Mojave to the rescue!
@goattit - only way dark themes could work and be good for eyes is if you were working in a dark room ... the office area is well lit (with white light) so your pupils will be constricted... now if you force your gaze on the monitor that’s mostly black it will cause your pupils to be dilated ? which is can cause damage to retina slowly .... not to forget trying to concentrate your gaze when pupils are dilated for extended periods isn’t healthy anyways.
What you need to do is use a low contrast theme that is easiest on the eyes. I had this great one in college that had pale yellow text with a pale green background. It was ugly as f*** but was easy on my eyes.
Solarized, 10/10 Not to your extreme, but close
People who have dark theme think they're the shit. Dark theme doesn't make you a better programmer 🤷🏻♂️
True ... a 24 yo told me at work they think people who code on white theme aren’t working at all 🙄😒
Dark theme cause my eyes hurt
It's a personal choice. Simple. Stop judging people. This thread is complete waste of time.
Dark theme cause can't do white, hurts my eyes...
It would only hurt if you worked in a dungeon
It's lit fine, and with white light at that. I do physically write code a lot more than most people though, maybe that plays a part
