I sponsored my parents for Green Card and they recently became permanent resident. They are in their 70s. Are they eligible for Medicare, Medicaid or Medical-cal? If not, which insurance would you recommend to purchase for them?
I don’t mind paying reasonable amount, but FYI medical bills tends to be hundreds of thousands of dollars w/o insurance
I didn’t say I was forced!!!!
They wont get any benefits until they become citizens. Marketplace is your best bet
Even when you become citizens you will need to buy Medicare coverage as I assume they have not worked 10 years in the US (paying into social security?)
Seems medi-cal if they have really low income "8. Can green card holders, including those who have lived legally in the US for fewer than 5 years, enroll in Medi-Cal? Yes. A lawful permanent resident (green card holder) is eligible for Medi-Cal regardless of their date of entry if they meet all other eligibility requirements. Under current Medi-Cal policy, eligible green card holders get full scope Medi-Cal in California even if they have been in the United States for less than 5 years.
