The end of Backdoor Roth?!
I’m sure it’s possible. Would think Corp Dev or IR would be a natural fit for a L/S guy. Biggest con would be the massive pay cut. Biggest pro would be a wider variety of career options and more stability. Don’t have too many hedge fund guys in my personal network but I have seen PE folks do what you have described. Slightly different skill set but still moving from fundamental investing to operating. Have to remember though that operating a company is different skill set than investing in public companies. I think your biggest challenge would be articulating the career switch in interviews. But if you are a hedge fund guy you likely have rock solid excel skills, can read financial statements and build models and are used to giving your opinion with conviction. All good skill sets for Corp dev or similar.
thanks for the reply. the pay cut point makes sense. what’s the range of pay for these types of roles? have cleared 7 figures the last 4 years, so might be tough to stomach without equity or kicker of some sort. feel like the switch could be clearly articulated in interviews unless your audience is just highly skeptical of hedge funds. appreciate the thoughts.
