Hey everyone, Fortunate and grateful enough to get new grad software engineering offers from these 2 companies, already signed with Northern Trust but not sure which one to go with. Recently got the Fidelity one. Both are in the finance sector Company: Northern Trust Location: Chicago, IL Year 1 TC: 95k Recurring TC: 95k Breakdown: 90k Base, 5k Annual Bonus Benefits: Standard Benefits Company: Fidelity Location: Durham, NC Year 1 TC: 98k Recurring TC: 86.4k Breakdown: 80k Base, 8% Annual Bonus, 7.5k Sign On Bonus , 5k Relocation Stipend Benefits: Standard Benefits I’m kinda nervous about reneging but want to see what y’all think is the best course of action to take. Mainly just concerned with which one looks better on the resume to get interviews from FAANG Big N, and potentially HFT when the economy gets better. If any extra comments please provide reasoning below. Really appreciate it, thank you! #chicago #northcarolina #
Both of them “uncool”, but Fidelity is a little bit more prestigious simply because it’s a big name in finances.
Fuck off with this "cool" bullshit. OP got not one but 2 job offers in a very difficult environment.
I totally agree, no doubt OP deserves respect 🫡 But they literally asked which of these companies will look cooler in CV from FAANG HM’s point of view.
What about team, what work will you be doing? That’s equally as important for a new hire.
Feel free to dm
People don’t really understand, but can get interviews at FAANG from just about any company. There are companies that are more competitive (ex. HFTs or selective smaller companies like OpenAI, DeepMind, etc) where a top school or previous FAANG experience are more helpful (but not required obviously)
Well, in 2022 I tried to apply in FAANG and some other tier 1 companies and even didn’t get to phone screen rounds. Just been getting standard emails saying they think I’m not a good candidate. I have 15 yoe and I believe my CV structure doesn’t suck because I spent a lot of time on optimizing it and applied all best practices. The only explanation I have, it’s because Ive only worked in noname companies nobody ever heard about.
Also if you are just accepting temp offer just so you can get interviews from Faang in 12 months then it does not matter!! He much of that salary and bonus are you even going to get if you start applying in 8-10 months
Just go with that is personally working like location, close to family and friends etc
You still interested in FAANG? Why?
