Hi everyone, I need some help deciding on an offer. Which one of these offers would you choose? What's your reasoning in terms of WLB, career development, etc.? Thank you! YOE: 2 Current TC: 130K All these offers are in the bay area 1. Amazon: SDE2, TC: 290K 2. ByteDance: 2-1, TC: 300K (was told this team is not 966) 3. Reddit: L3 (Google L4), TC: 250K 4. Facebook: E4, TC: 260K Out of these options, I think Facebook might be the best in terms of future career development (just having FB on my resume), but I think Reddit has a much better WLB and it might go IPO soon. What are your thoughts? I got a lot of questions about interview prep, here's my reply to one of the comments: I started doing interview prep 2 months ago. I've only done the Blind 75 questions (https://leetcode.com/list/xoqag3yj/), but I did these questions in mock interviews with a friend. Personally, I think mock interviews are much more important than LC total. I also looked at the company-specific questions before the interview, but I think the 75 questions helped me more than the company-specific questions. For system design, I used System Design Primer and Grokking the System Design Interview; reading these should be enough for an L4 position. In general, I think I got pretty lucky. I didn't get any overly difficult questions. I might need a few hints here and there but was able to solve all the coding questions without too many issues. #amazon #bytedance #reddit #facebook #offer #offers
Sad to see Amazon is not winning after offering more :( So much for long-term strategy
Reddit is also full remote which means your 250k stretches more if you pick LCOL to live in. Full remote helps introverted engineers who'd rather write code and written documentation to explain their designs. If you prefer socializing, don't pick Reddit, pick a physical office.
Thanks for the insights! I plan to stay in the bay area in the next few years, so I agree that the remote part is not that much advantage to me. I also prefer to have a team working in a physical office.
Wouldn't Reddit's $250k be adjusted to location?
These offers are insane for 2 yoe
The votes are overwhelmingly Facebook 20 minutes after I posted the poll. Can someone elaborate on why you think Facebook is better than ByteDance / Reddit?
Can't speak to Reddit but I heard nightmare stories about ByteDance. 996 working hours, late nights working w Chinese teams in China, language barriers, bad culture in general. This is all 3rd hand info at best but, a quick ByteDance search inside Blind should back up what I'm saying
I'm kinda unsure about them after they shelved their IPO plan and started stock buyback :(
Just to clarify, are you adding stock options completely which are supposed to be vested for 4 years in TC?
All the numbers are for the first year, so it's base + stock for the 1st year + bonus
Dafuq thatโs insane
Can you provide the split up, that would be helpful
The base salaries are all in the range of 165K - 183K. I don't want to provide a detailed breakdown for anonymity reasons.
Why is amazon not winning here ? Hmmmmmmmm
Amazon is low baller. Frugality LP only applies while giving TC. Low base compensation
Plus Amazon TC doesn't increase and mostly remains constant over first four years Because stocks vesting increases and bonus decreases
Why even keep the Amazon is poll? ๐
Avoid Amazon like the plague
MS is not good either. Typical Govt job
MSFT has better work life balance, and would pick it over Amazon all day. MSFT pays ๐ฅ which is why I already signed a different offer and leaving soon
Awesome offers! Congratulations ..Do you mind sharing how many LC total (and company specific) helped you reach here? Also what did you study for system design? A brief outline would be nice, if its not too much trouble!
