I have a pretty good job right now, paying me about 170k an year. In the pursuit of better money and better opportunities, I interviewed around a lot and though not the most desirable company at this point, I have an offer from Yahoo paying me about 110k more. I accepted the offer but as days pass I am finding it hard to fathom that I would be leaving behind the comfort of my team and move to a new company. In my head, sometimes I attribute the fear to the public sentiment about Yahoo, people calling it a career suicide by joining Yahoo and at times I attribute it to the fear of exploring new territories. My mind is constantly playing games with me and messing up my mood. I was never like this and feel like I’m slipping into an abyss. I’m not able to commit to the new job offer nor am I able to say fuck it, withdraw my acceptance and let go of all the extra money from the new role. I know this probably is not common, but how do I deal with it? People at Yahoo, should I really be scared about joining? #yahoo
Join Yahoo, use it as a stepping stone
Let’s see. On the one hand a 65% raise. On the other you stay in the credit card business. . .
The worst decision is indecision.
Cold feet is normal. Ask yourself if the reason is leaving the comfort zone or the new company being yahoo. You are getting a good pay bump, you are not currently in the best brand company, and after-all it is just a job to bring more dough.
Don’t worry about what people will think. People don’t have time to think about you. You are thinking more about you than you think someone else is thinking about you. Get that bump 😀 Forward progress is important. And progress isn’t linear. It’s zig zag! Lastly, no one else is paying your bills so you know how nice it would be to get that extra 💰
Yahoo is a tech company. You are going in the right direction.
Go make Yahoo great again!
Go get the money! I’m in the same boat as you. Love the job, love the company, love the team and I’m comfortable. But, I’m underpaid. I’m joining a startup for 90k more on my base… Is it a prestigious company? No Is it scary, risky and unfamiliar? Yes Will I learn new things? Yes And I can only go up from there so it’s an investment in my future. Do the same!
FinTech --> Tech is still an upgrade With a good TC bump
Blind will tell you TC is king and to join
