1 vs 5 Million - no lifestyle change
Any input will be appreciated. (I wrote a lot so please please say why when you reply!) yOE=4 Snap l4: 180, 10% bonus, 534/3 rsu Instacart l5: 190, 750/4 rsu, a little sign on Prop shop: ~500 first year, then who knows My thoughts: Snap - Relatively mature but still tons of things to do and opportunities to make an impact. No need to fight for projects like bigger companies. - People seem nice. Decent team. - Adsware experience is still highly valued in SV. - No stacking refresher. Bonus is not guaranteed even if you meet expectations. Instacart - Why is it a lot lower than l5 offers on blind? - From interview it sounds like the engineering team is growing super fast and a lot of things are messy. Expect unclear ownership, bad engineering quality, people making ad-hoc changes to others' code, business logic coupled with everything etc. It sounds worse than average pre-ipo companies. - When there is chaos there is opportunity to redesign and rewrite things and gain experience with growth pain etc etc. - Interview is too easy. Coding interviewer loaded the question and went on working on their own things. Don't think they are doing a good job in hiring - Heard there is a refresher program now. Prop shop - Exploration value for someone only worked tech. I consider myself the adventurous type. - Smarter peers seem to be a real thing. - You hear the pay for performance stories. It's good to have a dream different from stonks going up. - I'm doing average in tech so opportunity cost to switch is low. - Not necessarily better career path or better pay in the long run. - Longer hours: I'm hearing 50-55 and some people do more. - The skills you get are only highly valued in the same domain and you have non-compete. #engineering #finance #hft #snap #swe #instacart #software

Prop shop for me because of TC. I think IC is overvalued. Also could you tell us what questions they asked ? I"m having onsite with them soon. Thanks
Lol. Why interview with IC if you think they are overvalued? Equity is a huge part of their comp
I think IC is overvalued by 30%, which is still more than my current TC :d

Typical SDE mindset comment. You hardly know about business.
wouldn't location play a pretty big role? la vs sf vs chicago/nyc right?
Right I'm single and am open to anywhere.

Am surprised to see the prop shop dead last here
It's hard to vote something without name after all..
Take the prop shop offer! It’s not bad here but the reasons you’ve mentioned are very valid. You can always come back to pure tech with relatively less effort.
