Help me pick an offer!

I’m grateful to have received 2 internship offers for Summer 2024. I need help picking the best offer as the comp is pretty much the same. I’m personally looking to join the company with the highest potential return offer TC for new grad. Here are the offers: Workday(Pleasanton,CA): $50/hr + 7k housing Pros: - Return intern so already know my team very well - Manager and team are all super kind and fun to work with The Trade Desk(New York): $47/hr +7.2k housing + ~1k(relocation and wellness) Pros: - Work seems very interesting - Stock is doing pretty well

Stocks don’t matter to you. Since this is internship, I would say let’s explore.

But potentially if I were to get a return offer it would right?

The Trade Desk

Why?

Workday is not great plus this grows your network. You can go back to Workday later but this opens up new doors

Based on prestige and exit opportunities, Workday seems to be higher than The Trade Desk from what I’ve seen. In this market, you need to maximize your chance of a return offer, and if your team and managers like you, they’ll be more willing to give you an offer as opposed to TTD, which will likely hold it against you as a new joiner and having the built in equity that being a returnee brings. Good luck, OP! TC: 105K

Hold it against you that they’ve hired you? Wtf

It’s better to double down on a sure opportunity than join a new company, especially as an intern when you need to maximize your chance of a return offer. In a market that is nothing short of dismal for new grads, OP should take the opportunity that is more likely to get him a return offer so that he can get into the field and work his way up from where he is now; it’s too much risk on OP’s part to join TTD, where he has no track record or equity with the company where he’ll have to work harder to get into the TTD and receive a return offer.

Workday All Day

Why so? Also is it ok if I pm u about TC at TTD

The Trade Desk Department Oct 13, 2023

Honestly tc varies wildly even for the same role and location so it’s hard to give an estimate

Workday return offers are decent if you do well. The starting pay for a bachelors would be $125k base, $55k stocks, 5-10k bonus and 10% bonus. May be compare with ttd initial offer.

That 55k in stocks vests over 4 years I’m assuming?

Workday chocochimp Oct 15, 2023

Yes. P1 associate soft dev

Workday workdaypls Oct 15, 2023

If it is XO dev at Workday, it will ruin your career. If you already interned and if you are still considering, I pity your naiveness. "Manager and team are all super kind and fun to work with" - Does not matter, when they need to bend you over for a layoff.

Workday chocochimp Oct 15, 2023

Don’t scare the intern bud :)

Workday workdaypls Oct 15, 2023

Choco, I gave him some honest advice. I was about to ask you to give him some dose of reality. Ended up just giving it myself.

I’m not sure if any of the naysayers have done research and/or know anything about ad tech. The Trade Desk is a top player in the programmatic advertising space. Multi billion $ in revenue. All interns are eligible for a return offer if they are excellent performers. I met a recruiter who said that they have as many interns as full time spots. They don’t overhire.

The Trade Desk kickThtCan Oct 25, 2023

We already over hired.

Yea I think there is more potential in TTD then Workday in the long term. But my only concern is how likely it is to get a return offer.
