I am planning to apply for MS CS programs starting Fall 22. Please help me shortlist universities. Profile: - new grad SDE in India (not at Amazon) - older IIT (not old 5 though) - 9+/10 GPA - multiple research internships at BigTech - 330+ GRE - 1 top tier conference paper, 2 workshop papers Shortlisted universities: Super Ambitious - Stanford MS CS - CMU MS CS Ambitious - UC Berkeley MEng EECS - Cornell MEng CS - Georgia Tech MS CS - CMU MS IIS - UCSD MS CS Moderate - Columbia MS CS - UPenn MS CS - NYU MS CS Safe - Purdue MS CS How does my list look like? I am inclined towards well known universities with good ML group. I have not added many safe universities as I am okay with applying next year. I would also be helpful if you folks could suggest some more universities.
columbia is safe for you, NYU courant is super safe, nyu's standard has fallen
Your yoe?
0, I am 2021 graduate.
Put USC in safe. I chose USC over Columbia. Thank goodness I did that!!!
Why USC over Columbia? Could you explain?
Include UT Austin, and CMU MCDS, UIUC MSCS/MCS
Thanks for the suggestion. Thinking of replacing UPenn and Purdue with UT Austin and UIUC. Though, then it's very likely I won't get even a single admit.
Berkeley, Georgia tech and Purdue are kind of ambitious for you since they are funded MS programs and the intake is probably 50 students each!
I know GaTech and UCB are ambitious, but even Purdue?
The issue with Purdue is the batch size. It’s 60 in a normal year, was 120 this year(Corona, deferrals etc etc). You will get in though. I am from one of the IITs , nonCS BTech, 8.7 CGPA, zero papers I received an admit, though I decided not to go.
Hey where did you finally get in?
Given your creds, if you do your SOP well, NYU should be safe.
