Friend is really excited for some reason. I don't hear about Scala in production anywhere...
Uhm... many “helps” to you too
Scala is in production in a lot of places salesforce many teams run scala , also look at scala by the Bay talks you will see many companies running scala in production
Do you foresee growth in the future?
I think scala is fantastic , just because people are very very used to using java for their j2ee , weblogic and other needs does not have anything how great scala is . Scala is great and that’s the reason a lot of java 8 and java future versions take up functionalities which scala provides . To be honest I think lot of people may take up scala more and more as people start realize the benefits of using scala
Martin Odersky’s courses in Coursera
Which are sadly terrible.
Start by reading Martin Oderskys book and then read the book on Cats (free). Spark is the biggest adoption factor for Scala. But it’s a great language for API design and even UI.
There are also another great book called FP for mere mortals and that focuses on ScalaZ rather than cats. https://leanpub.com/fpmortals
Why do you think so?
I see
Why the fuck someone would go to Blind to ask for help learning technology? Wtf
The future belongs to FP and languages which promote side effect free, asynchronous and reactive systems. Also I will not take career advice from someone who went from Amazon to Oracle. Thanks.
Oracle please. Scala and more generally FP are awesome and on the rise. I don’t fault you for not knowing either because you work at Oracle - but don’t make such sweeping statements please
Anyway I just started this Martin guy's course today, it's actually a bit hard to 'think on those lines' all of a sudden, feels like a math class. Let me hustle through the introductory course, I'm still finding it hard to believe this might be used in production, must wait and watch.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Spark is in scala, so scala is in production pretty much everywhere
Do you think it'll grow like Python has grown in the last decade?
