Opening an office is still expensive; however, I agree the concern is that the per head amount could increase. Seattle is like a spoiled rich kid - it keeps getting money from the adults (aka the taxpayers), yet continues to squander its resources. For example, most of the revenue generated from the soda tax is going to pay the administrators of said tax - and not as much to the programs and education it claims to help boost. The bullet tax was imposed to curb crime, yet most of the gun crimes in Seattle are committed with stolen guns.
Head tax is setting precedence. More companies should do this. Fuck you Seattle
You mean precedent
Go somewhere else. It’s obvious they don’t want you here so why stay?
Eastside rocks! Medina should move closer to Medina.
I think this dude is just chiming in to raise profile for his startup.
WUT??? These liberal guys don't like tax? Shocked!
I think it's more to do with the wasteful spending. A lot of people would be fine paying taxes for something that benefits them, but the city is so incredibly wasteful that people are waking up to the incompetence and greed of the city council. They already spend $50 million per year on homelessness yet you will still find an ever expanding pool of homeless people asking for money on the streets.
Exactly. I’m more than happy to pay for programs that work but Seattle is fiscally irresponsible:
Build a wall, anyone?
The cost of opening or moving an office is much more than $275 a head. I think these companies come off looking foolish. Maybe if you are a grocery store you notice the cost per employee.
Not really. It's the climate. I think if they thought this $275 was the end, they may stay. Also opening a new office isn't really as expensive as it seems.
It was originally $500 per head, and to be eventually replaced by a 0.7 percent payroll tax. I'm guessing the payroll tax is what Amazon is really worried about, since it's a lot more expensive than $275/head.
