Hesitant to go on vacations in this tech economy?

How do people feel about spending on vacations with all the layoffs going around? I have a Memorial Day weekend trip partially planned - I haven’t financially committed to it yet - but part of me really doesn’t want to spend 1k on a trip when there’s so much talk of PIPs and layoffs. On top of that, I worry the optics of taking a lot of PTO are bad when higher ups are deciding whom to cut. TC 260k, YOE 6, MCOL, NW 200k (of which 40k is in my bank account)

Why?

You still gotta enjoy life. Never know when it’ll end.

Taking a week end of summer and 2 weeks in the fall. Already paid for plane tickets, still working on hotels. But honestly, if I got laid off, I'd be fine, so I'm not sweating it. If I wasn't financially fine, I might be less willing.

Yeah. I mean I won’t go broke if I’m laid off, especially when you add severance to my NW, but I’ve seen my NW dwindle during time off between jobs before and I really would like to avoid having that happen again. I got a late start and was broke as late as age 28 so I’m making up for lost time.

Yeah, everyone's financial situation is different, which is why I caveated my response. I'm waiting a few years to cushion my NW, but pretty sure I can FIRE now, which is why I'm not sweating it.

Small breaks at least, 1-2 days every 2-3 months are definitely important. Working too long without a break impacts performance too. might get pipped for poor performance. you get diminishing returns
