For Machine Learning, what higher prestige places are there to work besides FAANG? You can include TC as a factor in “prestige” if you want. TC: 235k YOE: 5
Pinterest, Snap, Stripe, Databricks
Pinterest, really?
For ML, yes. They pay more and have interesting problems for ML.
Airbnb, Snap
Unless you're working on ranking I don't think there's anything special at Airbnb
How is the Tc for new joiners post iPO ? I think the fat $s ship has sailed
Can you define prestige and how to quantify it?
The hint is in 5 YOE. Indian dude going for arranged marriage. What company name brings in more dowry?
Something is wrong with your head @rajbhai.
Albertsons
This is the only right answer
Tesla!
Tesla is absolutely going backwards on ML. Each Autopilot update gets worse. Their team is too small, overworked, quits often, so they keep hiring less experienced people to replace the experienced ones who left. Horrible tragedy 🎭 of Elon’s.
High frequency trading - higher TC than FAANG - generally more interesting work - better “wow” factor - no RSU, all cash TC
Contribute nothing to society...
Not usually, definitely not, no, and true.
among WLB, TC, career growth... why would anyone care about prestige? after getting faang on your resume how does having more prestige help you in anyway? wouldn't you only consider tc, wlb and mab promotion opportunity?
Mab?
CHAD is higher prestige than FAANG
Whats chad
Cognizant HCL Accenture Deloitte
Why care about prestige? Do you think a contractor at fang working on some cutting edge AI algorithms has higher prestige than a fulltime fang employee doing manual qa? It doesn't matter. Prestige is so subjective that spending any effort optimizing for it is an utter waste.
This is about dowry in arranged marriage. OP needs a well known AND respected brand for negotiating more from future in/laws. Hint: OP has 5 YOE.
It is illegal to do it directly. But it happens under the disguise of wedding gifts from bride’s parents.
Quant roles at trading firms
The ML at quant roles is very different from the ML in tech industry. Quant roles are heavy on math and stats which many MLEs in tech lack. I would say the skill set is very different for both of them.
This is false. I’d take Google Brain or FAIR over a quant role any day. They have the most cutting edge research and pay just as well
