Highest total compensation band for Google T3

I recently interviewed at Google and was leveled at T3. I have multiple offers from other companies leveling me at T4 (and I'm a T4 at my current company). The recruiter said that they'll match competing offers. Are they going to match competing offers in the ~280k range for T3? I can't imagine that happening.

They can match, but refresh band will definitely be lower.

I’m in this boat (L3 with comp raised to match an L4 competing offer) and I was assuming this would be the case (possibly combined with “get promoted soon or you’re fired”), but I actually got what seems like a pretty generous refresh for an L3 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do you mind sharing rating / refresher amount?

Out of curiosity, what does your T4 comp breakdown look like and where?

side question hopefully won't derail threat but do different campuses have different pay bands? (boulder specificaly)

Facebook KurisuM Dec 16, 2017

Of course.

Google bupkis Dec 17, 2017

Yes, comp is based on local market. Not based on the cost of living, but based on what the market pays your job in that area. Usually these two are correlated but there are deviations.

Google downlevels FB candidates as well. That's surprising.

Google Noogler69 Dec 16, 2017

I think even Facebook’s levels (at least L3 through L5) are slightly inflated with respect to Google’s (I also think they promote based on different qualities; e.g. Google cares way more about design docs). I also think Google typically pays more at each level (at least for L3 through L5).

If it helps, a friend for the following recently: 100k signing, 145 base, 415 rsu. Had competing offer from fb at E4.

Facebook KurisuM Dec 16, 2017

For T3? That's a lot. Better than high end E4 offers at FB except for the base.

Google kleops Dec 16, 2017

Yes, he had E4 100 / 160 / 300 at fb and they wouldn't budge further. Ended up deciding on fb because Google pretty much guaranteed him no refresh until end of year 2.
