I have a customer for my side project and want to work on it full-time. Sometimes, I worry I'm taking a wild risk by quitting during this job market. If I don't have decent traction within 6 months, I would probably need to return to the job market. I wonder if It will be seen as a bad sign that I quit to start my own company. Thoughts? Please, only people who make hiring decisions. My current company would recommend me, but they aren't going to be super happy to see me leave, so I'm a bit worried. My TC isn't crazy right now but would want to get something equivalent if things go sideways YOE: 3 in SDE and 5 in nontech TC: $145 #tech #startup
You’re fine. Just tell your current employer you’re happy with them and wanting to come back if it doesn’t work on your own.
As a hiring manager with multiple prior startups of my own, no. It helps future job prospects, because you have broader experience than someone that worked at a big company where other teams provided everything for you.
Best solution, Work on the side project for the customer After 1-3 months spin a story needed for FMLA Apply for FMLA Check if the side hustle is successful If No—> return to office as a person who has conquered the world If Yes—> drop a note to team.. need additional time to decompress.
Sounds like a great way to go to jail for insurance fraud and have the company claim the IP, since they paid you for the time you spent working on the startup.
