I’m not fired or laid off But wanted to just practice interviewing to stay up to date Found 3-4 jobs that I was sure would be great fit and I could go through the interviews and even get an offer easily Received 0 interviews! Zero!! From roles that I could bet I’ll get an offer The market is crazyyyy! Stay safe people Director level Game industry 16 YOE 700 TC #game #tech
More people need to hear this 🫡
Best is Dont get laidoff
Yea u dont want to get laid off in this economy
Market is really bad for people leaders (managers and above)
I’ll try lower levels to see what happens
Okay “New”
Sorry “Microsoft”
I have the same issue. FAANG interviews me, but instant rejections from all others.
All FAANG or just Amazon + Meta?
When they say FAANG without specifying the company, it usually means Amazon.
No one needs more managers. Companies need people who can actually make things that aren't PowerPoint decks.
Like we don’t need to have product owners anymore? Head of product could be anyone and everyone?
Director level roles in big companies are already well staffed. Companies are no longer expanding therefore the number of managerial roles is not expanding. Managers and directors are now taking on more headcount under them not less. This is why you can't find roles at that level. For ICs it's different. ICs create value by building products and systems. Show me a company where increasing manager headcount, and only managers, created more value? The more managers you have the more they fight for scope and the more chaos they create as they try to justify their existence. This is for FAANG, I don't know if the game industry is different.
Yeah it’s brutal. Jobs that I have a nearly 1:1 resume for and get a referral for - no interview
I have passed Google interviews and hiring committee and had team matching call with a GCP team that does EXACTLY THE SAME thing I'm doing in Azure. It's an equivalent team. There is literally 0 chance they could get a candidate with better fit, unless if the candidate is from my current team. They had 3 open positions. And they rejected me saying they had a candidate with more appropriate skillset. Go figure.
Wow!!
It doesn’t matter what you do in Azure. What matters is whether you solved the algo questions in the interview. If you didn’t, then hiring committee doesn’t care about your background. This was true in any market - not just right now
Apparently not for mid career, director-level game developers!
Def not for the game and IT
