Horrible Coinbase Interview - Anyone else?

Had a horrendous interview experience w coinbase last week and still shell shocked by how off putting the engineers are? I had a final round and in one round, the manager was working on something the entire interview, you can hear the clicking and see the screen changes on their face and they were not making eye contact. Muttered an “mmmhmm” once in a while so I knew they had a pulse. Was barely interested the entire interview and was skeptical about everything I said. Other engineer forced me into writing my solution the way they wanted and actively highlighted sections of my code for me to redo the way they wanted and had me waste time re-explaining parts of my code because they weren’t paying attention. Other engineer barely engaged in system design interview and had their camera off the entire time?? I read threads on Reddit about horrible Coinbase interview experiences but thought people were exaggerating…Is this normal? What is going on at Coinbase? TC: 320K #engineering #software #swe

I had a coinbase interview a year ago and the engineer interviewing me felt the same, I did the coding problem, he barely talked when I said I'm done there was a pause and he said oh you're done, clearly didn't pay attention. He then went on to say how Coinbase is the Google of crypto, its petty of me but I was very happy that they did layoffs after I had been rejected

Okay this is validating, I thought maybe this one engineer had an off day but all 3?? Someone please get their egos in check it’s ridiculous. And sorry about the rejection, hopefully onto better things🙂

Do you know that managers and other interviewers were nothing down everything you were saying as they need to provide a written assessment? Everyone has to go through a hiring committee also.

I’m well aware and I’ve sat through enough interviews at other small and larger companies to know how they can conduct written assessments while still being present in the interview without being blatantly rude. It seems Coinbase has this reputation for doing this

Coinbase used to have an amazing interview experience about 3 years ago. I guess that was before the layoffs. Sad to see what was once a great process degrade into such a terrible one.

3 years ago was when we were hiring crazy and handing fat offer out to almost anyone, ah, good old time I joined during those time 😘

Meta messydesk Feb 23

I had a friend from meta join coinbase. They left and returned to meta after only 3 months. He said it was the most terrible place ever and hated every second of it

What did he hate about it there?

Although not coin base but I had a similar interview experience at DoorDash The interviewer legit dozed off for a good couple of mins while I was working through a potential solution to a coding problem. He woke up and didn’t understand my solution so I had to repeat. Completely killed my focus and enthusiasm. Reached out to the recruiter and described what happened No response Got an automated rejection couple of days later Never applied again Never responded to a recruiter

Noooo way 😭😭 I’m sorry that’s whack it’s almost like sorry for showing up to my interview am I boring you??? We have got to do better as engineers esp in this hostile recruiting climate

I had a totally normal/dull interview with them two months ago for a PM role. No feedback given, the interviewers were non-emotional and we didn't talk for a second about my background or work. They didn't seem very excited about the work life balance either. Blessing in disguise!
