Everyone at FB gets super butt hurt that contractors dont get the same pay or benefits as FTE. Here to put some sense back into people: they didn't earn the title nor go through the same pipelines an FTE has had to endure. It's the popular thing to say that they all deserve the same benefits as FB employees, but the world doesn't work like that. Too many people at the company live within their ultra socialist mind set that everything needs to be free and everyone deserves to work at FB and have college paid for. Sorry for the rant, just tired of the extreme group think.
I doubt the majority of people want contractors to "have college paid for" and for "everything to be free". I am under the impression that they just want contractors to be treated better. I've also noticed people who complain often about being stuck in an "ultra socialist mindset" and being a victim of "extreme group think" often aren't as much of a victim as they portray themselves to be. If you're really truly tired of it, then go to a different company. But from my interaction with FB employees - it's clear to me that a large majority are empathetic and caring individuals who are lucky and hard-working enough to get a really large TC and who want to help contractors who are often treated unfairly and paid minimally. I have a lot of respect for them that they look out for the less fortunate and advocate for better working conditions for them.
The irony is that it’s a god complex that encourages this, not goodness of their heart. An FB shuttle driver isn’t functionally different than a muni or any other bus driver but instead of trying to change an industry, they just want to feel good about the people they interact with. The reality is that the industries served by contractors are driven by capitalism like everything else. Their pay and benefits are commensurate to how easily replaced they are.
Nah, it's mainly virtue signaling. Know folks who whine about dilution of the FB brand due to the lower hiring bar. And also separately state that they want contractors to become employees.
The criteria for on par compensation or benefits should ideally be how well the individual is performing/ the value they bring to the table. I do not agree that criteria include “earn the title nor go through the same pipelines an FTE has had to endure.”
Shows a lot about how many people at FB and other big tech companies view the hiring process as a form of hazing

Disappointed this isn't the top comment tbh
Agreed 100%. If a contractor is being denied pay or something like that, absolutely we should have their backs, but if the complaint is their badges are a shade of blue instead of white, then I stop listening.
Post this on the internal groups, I'll bring the 🍿.
What a toxic existence you have. Eww.
I am a contractor. No, I don't expect equal pay or tuition benefits. I expect to be treated well. I expect my manager to allocate work based on time availability and capability, and being a contractor or not shouldn't even be a consideration. I expect the employer to provide me a comfortable environment to work in, just like it provides fte. I have contracted with 4 companies so far. I enjoyed the most where I was treated a part of the larger team (I don't think anyone except for my manager even knew I was a contractor). I hated it when the ftes thought they need to oversee me, assign me work, and I should have no relaxed time because I was being paid by the hour.
The inequality is horrible. Something must be done. As a sjw I demand it get fixed. If they can’t make more then the best must take a cut to match the contractors. Horrible what fb swe do to make money on other people’s backs
They say the house slaves typically looked down on the field slaves - to the detriment of both.
Damn. That's deep.
Sad but there are variations in people’s ability to do job and hence get paid accordingly It would be great if janitors got paid the same as PhD in machine learning scientists. But then we will all be janitors
