How Facebook is Enabling Set Up For Voter Intimidation

A political campaign is asking supporters with no training in what is and isn’t legal to loiter around polling places, maybe looking over the shoulder of county election workers or who knows what. (Looking for suspicious people in line?) where is listening people to do this through a Facebook video ad. No doubt the ad is targeted towards members of particular FB groups. Sandberg squirms in the first few minutes of this interview. When pressed she repeatedly says “we are providing links to resources and labeling ads that we think have inaccurate information” in response to a Trump ad that leads to a web page that calls for “every able-bodied man and woman to join army for Trump” If you go to the site in the ad, which apparently Sandberg has not done, this campaign is looking for several categories of support. One is called “Election Day team.” On that page it says “As a member of our Election Day Team, you will assist Team Trump and grassroots operation..” They talk about turning out the vote and then add “...volunteers may be involved in other Election Day activities such as precinct coverage….” And in the video on the page. “Our goal is to cover every polling place in the country with people like you.” Start listening at 45 seconds https://www.npr.org/2020/09/30/918846830/how-facebook-is-trying-to-control-disinformation-election-part-1 Facebook employees need to speak up about the company taking money to enable a political campaign’s set up to enable teams of untrained volunteers descend on polling places to keep an eye on things rather than trusting the counties to do their jobs . What if some other groups decide to send their own people to make sure the first group is not intimidating folks? I feel like I we are stepping towards places like Zimbabwe and Congo.

I can hear Sandberg now on November 5 “we had no idea that they would ask that subset of their supporters to hang around polling places. It’s a shame that led to violence, and people staying home because of it, but it wasn’t our fault. Thank goodness Facebook was around so people in swing states knew what was going on and were able to stay safe by not going to the polling places”

Facebook is cancer for democracy. Their leadership knows and do not give a fuck. As a matter of fact they have repeatedly proven they encourage this destructive behavior. Why would anyone complaining change their mind? Again: THEY KNOW.

Facebook called an innocent teenager a murderer and banned support for him. When Kyle Rittenhouse is fully absolved he will have a clear case of intimidation and libel against facebook. He’ll probably be awarded enough to be set for life.

Well said! Facebook and Twitter are the biggest threats to the freedom of speech.

So you’re saying if they don’t exist, we freeer speech? Clarification: are you defining free-speech in constitutional legal terms (governments may not restrict how people express themselves) or is this something more general?
