How bad is the analytics field right now?

I hear horror stories of people unable to find a job for 6 months. Is that still the case?

Coupang rickyricky Apr 9

Very bad if you have < 5 yoe

Hubspot Huburnt OP Apr 9

Is it good if you have over that? Or just average.

I'd say still not great. 8 YOE with awards in my field and a hard to find skill set - took four months starting in Oct 2023 to get an offer as a contractor after my last role. I've never had it take more than a month to get an offer until now.

Hipcamp IGOo77 Apr 12

4 yoe in analytics, started interviewing and signed an offer in ~1.5 months. Would have been faster but part of it was during holiday break where everywhere was shut down

Coupang rickyricky Apr 12

did you need visa or citizen?

Hipcamp IGOo77 Apr 13

Citizen

Been batting away LinkedIn recruiters since reaching senior

I had trouble. Took me about 6 months to land another DS job. I have 10+ yrs of analytics exp but < 2 yrs in tech

Intuit glumm Apr 12

Had a bad time. 8+ yoe, good resume ( or so some recruiters said) took 3 months for an underwhelming offer.

For new grads?

Microsoft BigAl1987 Apr 12

Lots of competition for good jobs at the moment. My team just posted 2 DS positions. We got over a thousand applications in one week. Allowed us to be really picky. So far 3 strong internal candidates and a half dozen external that on paper look great.

Coupang rickyricky Apr 13

out of those 1k apps 90% probably didnt even fit 50% of the reqs or even in the country guessing by your company…

REI rubico Apr 12

It took me a month after the last HQ layoffs at REI If it helps: I have a masters and about 3YoE, I apply to underwhelming companies/not big Tech I keep the job handle so I can see all the internal tea going on

I have been looking for 3 months now with 1 interview total. 13 yoe data science.

Netflix bowshamwow Apr 12

If you don’t have any skills and can only leetcode in interviews instead of actually interpret data and give good thoughtful responses you’ll have a really hard time.

Glassdoor jfdj355 Apr 13

It’s always the other way around. Inability to do even basic leetcode questions. Programming skill is non existent

Netflix bowshamwow Apr 13

I disagree. Programming skill is a super basic thing that can be learned easily on the job. Actually being able to understand data, transform it, derive insights and tell stories with it is the hard skill.
