I'm a Junior UX/Product Designer with 1+ years of experience with a Master's in design from Cornell. I started looking for jobs in January but so far, I haven't found what I'm looking for. Things are looking up after I moved to the Bay Area so I think this is the place to be. I'd love to hear about any entry level UX job openings or interviewing tips! You can check out my portfolio at: https://salonijoshi.net
What are you looking for?
An entry level UX/Product Designer position in the Bay Area with a 70+ base pay. Size of the company is irrelevant to me
Any fields or industries you're particularly interested in?
What's your portfolio like? Mind sharing a link?
Sure! https://salonijoshi.net
Cool. First off, your header says you're both a UX enthusiast and a Coder. Gotta pick one. If I read that I'd think you were a front end Dev. Your website is not mobile friendly - should look into that. Get a more pro email address. An .edu will make you look Jr by default. Digging the process documentation. Shows your psyche which is great. Could benefit from more projects. They don't have to be real, but they should be real usable and unique.
Reach out to designers in companies. Attend meet ups and network. Also having a solid portfolio helps. Hunt down recruiters and let them know how awesome you are over other candidates. Also, if you do have a portfolio link, would you mind sharing?
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely keep it in mind :D
Mad respect for putting yourself out there, esp on an anonymous message board.
Thank you so much, really nice of you to say that :D
Agree with AIBP54 on the UX vs Coder, email address. Go for quality over quantity. I have seen people with 2-3 well narrated projects on their portfolio go through and get jobs here. Focus on storytelling, impact of the design and learnings from the process. Put your personality in your portfolio too.
