How come Netflix pays so high ?

Even Glassdoor estimates are in the higher end for not even a SWE position ..233k -305K.

Netflix quickster Jun 26, 2019

Netflix paid me about double what I had expected from reading Glassdoor. It's an interesting philosophy to compensate employees extremely well. I'm quite satisfied with my coworkers.

No stocks and high stress with bad WLB (for few)= higher base salary

Netflix netflex Jun 26, 2019

Stock options do not count as stock to you?

Netflix Leopold1 Jul 6, 2019

What kind of bad WLB? I’ve had an average of 7 weeks paid time off every year, rarely ever work after 5pm. WFH at least once a week. I don’t think I can get that in Google. You’ve got what, 12 paid days off? 12? And that’s better WLB?

Wells Fargo seeyeeyeo Jun 26, 2019

Getting money thru W2 is the worst form of payment

Facebook public2 Jun 26, 2019

Yep, but unno every business pays this way...

Netflix mr.clippy Jun 26, 2019

Where do you think your RSUs and bonuses are paid through? It’s all reported and taxed as income.

Google ke4sHc Jun 26, 2019

The price comes at the risk of layoff

Netflix xıʃɟʇǝᴎ Jun 26, 2019

Pay is high because of the significant risk of getting fired anytime. In this economy where tech jobs are plenty, Netflix wouldn’t be able to hire if they didn’t pay extra $. Even after this much money, quality of hires is extremely poor.

I used, as most of the companies I believe, opensource software from N and the code was pretty solid.

Netflix xıʃɟʇǝᴎ Jun 26, 2019

Which Netflix OSS you used?

Facebook wuzapp Jun 26, 2019

I worked there and yes they have NO salary bands like all other companies. So they pay you based upon experience and how high the need is for the role you are applying for. You do not get stocks as equity but you have the option to purchase shares at a low price. Also no quarterly or annual bonuses so you need to factor that in when negotiating.

450k at Netflix vs 300k at Salesforce(wlb with good job security). What do you recommend?

Salesforce yymG87 Jun 26, 2019

450K at Netflix

Salesforce Gjjdhjekej Jun 26, 2019

Why? Learning?

MailChimp REGd4n Jun 26, 2019

Because you'll be fired at the drop of a hat

Netflix quickster Jun 26, 2019

I think this is an exaggeration. I've heard our turnover stats are pretty typical for the industry (like 9% or something). I think it varies a lot by org, because in my org it's been quite stable. Only two people fired in the last year.

Amazon redshift Jun 26, 2019

@quickster which org if you don’t mind sharing?

Salesforce Gjjdhjekej Jun 26, 2019

On LinkedIn I saw people working for more than 10 years

Netflix xıʃɟʇǝᴎ Jun 26, 2019

Those are the people who have learned the politics and made the right connections. Hard to do that now a days, as those same people (mostly incompetent) will get you fired.
