How common is it to see people have million USD invested in the stock market

Hi all, How many people in the US would have a million-dollar invested in the stock market alone. I'm referring only to retail investors like (us) employees working in IT, Banks, and so on. #personalfinance #investments #tech

A lot. Many middle class people Ive met have at least a million saved for retirement and continue to invest

How much is that in tax advantaged accounts tho vs individual

Amazon 🦙alpaca Apr 3, 2021

If you are smart, should be 100%, but some people save more than the maximum, so it varies a lot. Investing in individual and doing short term tradings is like the most stupid thing you can do

You couldn’t be more vague?? I’m sure people that are 21 and 55 have 2 different financial situations

Realistically you cannot retire early by parking all your money in savings accounts. Most folks invest in various etfs or stocks. So yeah, 1m is very common. This is all for upper middle class and higher folks.

Probably 5-10%

Most Americans never have a net worth of over a million. 3.5% of people are millionaires in the USA, but about 8% of adults. Of course there's no way to know how many people will become millionaires in their life. I couldn't find data on people who used to be millionaires but are no longer. A lot of these people would not have a million without counting equity in their home. You can check this website for net worth by age: https://dqydj.com/net-worth-by-age-calculator-united-states/

Most off the people who has 1+M, will have it.

Pretty much any Bay Area SFH home owner who has bought 5+ years back

$1M+ puts you in the top 10% of US population. Don’t let Bay Area bubble cloud your judgement

It is an obsession only in US. In my home country I have never heard of any of my friends (who didn’t work at a bank) ever touching the stock market. I even know some people from sales/trading at a bank who never invested in the market.

You call it an obsession, but really these days of zero interest rate is the only sensible place to put your cash .. but I agree that back home its still considered gambling even if the s&p 20 year record makes it a pretty safe bet for long term investments.
