Apparently his message was picked up by the airport WiFi? How’s this even possible? I would imagine Snapchat has ssl encryption (even if not end to end) between the app and their servers? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68056421.amp
Snap really has something to explain, and clarify its privacy. I asked the question while at Snap but the answer was “it’s complicated”.
National security mandates
The point is that Snap portraits itself as secure and private but it doesn’t have E2E encryption in general. WhatsApp is more clear. Signal definitely is.
Who did he send the message to? In the article it sounds like it was sent to friends, which means why is he on trial for public disorder for private speech? The authorities screwed up and are trying to pin their mistakes on him.
National security comes before an individual's privacy. Would you have been ok with it if it was an actual scenario and the authorities didn't do anything even after knowing about the message?
National security is the one who made his private business public. He did absolutely nothing to cause public disorder, it was the security forces who did that. They fucked up and are looking for a scape goat.
play stupid games win stupid prizes
I don't understand why they charged him. I can understand that Europe's security is compromised by their lax immigration enforcement but they investigated and it turned out there wasn't anything. That should have been the end of that. It seems like they are trying to get someone charged just because they want some outcome.
People get charged and planes do emergency landing because of idiots making stupid threats like this in the US all the time. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Just be glad he wasn’t swatted upon landing.
This wasn't a threat or a prank. Have you seen the number of people with behavioral issues at airports? I'm all for zero tolerance of poor behavior but this doesn't meet that criteria and if this does, then by your standards, air travel would actually be a pleasant experience in the US.
Does Snapchat only end-to-end encrypt direct messages or also group chats?

Couldn’t it be re-sent to airport security by the people who received the message?
A good possibility, but I think it would be nice if that’s what the news articles are saying (and not a blanket: “WiFi network admin is watching you”)
