Getting desperate after 1 month of being laid off and not finding something. Any help would be appreciated whether it be books, lectures, or programs. Marketing degree with background in design. Bay Area. Thank you all 🙏🏽
Finding a good fit takes months of full time job hunting. You're still early in the process. Keep improving your resume and keep applying.
I’ll do that thanks 👍🏽
Sometimes you get lucky and score after a month. I once got a job at the end of second month. However prior to that Corp gave me 3 months package and wanted it back if I find a job. So I took it easy. Day after day... then suddenly I can’t find anything. Took 6 month to find a job. Even applied for unemployment from feds.
I feel that! I’m on unemployment now and while I want to freelance I have to report that to Gov so it cuts into my “secured” check. Thanks for your input tho glad to see you got out of it 👍🏽
Reach out to your network that your looking. Polish that resume. Marketing has a lot of new companies like Tableau or Hibu or get some education in those new companies to make yourself more valuable to a new employer.
Have you considered contracting while you search? Check out Creative Circle; they often have part-time or contract design work. Good luck and know that it’ll work out in the long run!
Love creative circle! It’s been the source of my phone interviews so far just not in-person, I’ll keep looking and hoping
Contract gig for survival while hunting for ideal fit
Find yourself at networking meetings with personal business cards. Do some freelance work, sign on with placement companies, open up your LinkedIn account showing you’re looking for a job.
I’ll go hard on placement companies thank you!
Imo 1 month isn't that long. Try to relax, enjoy the unemployment and trust that the right thing will come eventually.
It takes time. Don’t limit yourself to the Bay Area. The rest of the country is hungry for good talent. Don’t go broke trying to get a Bay Area TC if they don’t want you
I always thought I was an SF techie since I went to USF after becoming a citizen last year but now I’m really ok with moving away! Highly considering, thank you!
If I could suggest, check out texas. I lived there for 19 years. It’s super business friendly. No income tax at the state level. Reasonable sales tax. COL is cheap. Tons of jobs. Great food. Absolutely no one cares about your political or religious beliefs. The stuff people display about Texas on tv are the extremists. In 19 years I never experienced any of that. I live in Seattle now because of work but I own a 3 bdrm house in Houston where I could walk to downtown in less than 10 min and that was less than $350k. Imagine doing that in the Bay Area.

Yeah it’s rough, I’ll laugh along 😅 Hopefully my graphic design skills can do something but i don’t know the space - we’ll see.
Hey @Tradigital, I’m working as a front end freelancer and I’m in the need of a UI/UX designer, do you happen to know anything related to that? If so then ping me so that we can work on something :)
