I am a smoker and find it hard to quit though I would like to. Been smoking for 5 years at almost 1 a day on an average. I can go without smoking for a week or so when I'm with family that I visit once a year but again that first cigarette after that break pulls me back into my habit. I did try e-cigs and vape but they don't satisfy my craving for an actual one. Did nicotine patches work for you or is it just mental resilience?
“Stop smoking now” By Alan Carr. U can also do the course. But book is pretty awesome. Get audio version on audible and listen to it while driving before sleeping etc.
Fully agree. This helped me to quit 4 years ago.
Thanks! I will try this.
One way would be to start running/cardio, and eat clean, and change your surroundings for the better.
I eat healthy. I do workout but never been into full fledged cardio even before my smoking began.
Oh man, trust me, cardio has a very good chance of forcing cigarettes out of your system, by improving your lungs. Whenever you have a craving try to run for a bit or just cycle or something- basically get your heart rate up when you crave.
Think of what your family, beloved around... how would they survive and feel in your absence after your death. If that is too much then forget it, continue smoking, anyhow you have got less healthy years of your life if you continue at this pace.
Buddy, please never advise someone about something you have not experienced because you seem to be terrible at it.
That deterrent factors work for many, if you think that is terrible but want to live in denial about health then you can continue. It is like telling medicines taste terrible than illness.
You can do whatever to make you feel better in a few months but set a hard deadline. After that day, you stop buying any products. That’s it.
Yes, this would probably be the way to go as I think I'm still not a complete addict.
i switched to ecigs cuz they tasted better than realized i didnt need that either so i quit
If you can stop for a week, you can stop. What I did was to plan to stop for exactly 1 year as a challenge. First three months were hard, next 3 were easier and after that the urge was gone.
Ohh, I need to aim for a month. Thanks for letting me know that it's possible. A week is easy when I'm happy and with family but once I'm back to my routine, it's full of stress.
January of 2015, I overdid it. 1-2 packs every day. After a few weeks, smoking became a chore. It never felt the same. Quit cold turkey. 3 months after quitting and not hanging out with people who smoke (used to relapse over drinks with friends), it left my system completely. Now I am actually repulsed by the smell. Haven’t had cravings for over 4 years now. Can’t believe I reeked of that smell for over a decade.
When I just got into smoking, I couldn't bear the smell as well. I'm surprised how it all changes when that's a habit. Thanks for sharing your experience!
You are saying 1 cigarette or one pack? I used to smoke an average of 5-6 cigs a day for almost 20 years. One day I just stopped. It was nothing too difficult but the desire was still there for almost a year. I did try to start smoking again after 8 months into quitting but was quite gross, I was too sensitive to nicotine. Since then I kind of stopped feeling the urge.
Yes, 1 cig a day. I try so hard to not smoke more. You would probably laugh but I buy American Spirit and smoke half of it after work and stub it and smoke the other half at night before sleep. This has become kind of a habit for 5 years now. There are some days when I smoke 2-3 but 1 a day is the average.
I never planned to stop because I didn’t think is a big deal. Stopped after I got married because of my wife. If you smoke that little, you’re not really hooked up on nicotine. If you were, you’d be smoking much more due the down regulation effect. Is genetic, some just don’t get addicted as easily. For me quitting smoking was much easier than reducing the sugar
Nicotine replacement therapy in combination with drugs like Chantix or Wellbutrin can be exceedingly effective. You can also try a combination of replacement therapies without prescriptions. All better chances of quitting than cold turkey. https://www.cochrane.org/news/featured-review-different-doses-durations-and-modes-delivery-nicotine-replacement-therapy
Stop buying. No don't do e-cig. Nicotine patch doesn't work. Just quit cold Turkey. Whenever you have the craving drink water
Terrible advice. Cold turkey has a 5% success rate.
LOL quitting after 15 years of 2 packs a day. Cold Turkey is only way to quit completely as long as you can pass 3 weeks
