How do I become a member of the elite?
I was reminded during a recent international trip to India that I’m far, far from elite in any way - mediocre university grad, mediocre company, mediocre team, sitting in economy. I’ve understood I can’t get it at my current company - even AWS isn’t universally elite and the devices org definitely isn’t. Nobody is impressed if I tell them i work at Amazon, if anything they think I’m a mediocre engineer and couldn’t get in anywhere else. Where would I go to become a part of it? Is google even enough or is it too pedestrian nowadays?

Work on self confidence should be your first step.
Self confidence doesn’t get me first class or into an airport lounge. I mean unless I con myself in there. But I’m not gonna do that.
Actually you don’t even need self confidence to do the latter that is get into a lounge. Just get any $450 annual credit card. I am pretty sure an engineer at Amazon can afford It. Anyways, self confidence doesn’t buy you all what you said but it allows you to not worry about these petty things.

Wait .. Amazon is mediocre. Again, elite or how many million you jave people remember you for how nice you are and how much you have helped others.. money gives you brief wow moments but you need character to sustain it. Find some charities in spare time and contribute. Or leetcode to improve yourself what ever u do, keep in mind once u hits mid 40s its over... stop comparing and start enjoying life.. hope this helps and u are not wasting people's time
I don’t have enough to donate a lot - my net worth is only like $30k in cash or so. I donate a few dozen to against malaria and Democratic candidates in close races (Doug Jones, Conor Lamb). My mom yelled at me when I donated to those too.

You won’t be in elite. You’re not intellectually interesting - not a writer, not a journalist. You are not born into money, so you did not hone your high society skills from early age. You are not an artist with long term creation potential. Your work ages faster than anything and the only thing that keeps you relevant is that you’re a cog in huge albeit profitable machinery. Best you can do is amass wealth, then spend few years challenging yourself intellectually, then start using your wealth for social causes. Until you’re there just accept who you are, will be much easier.
