I didn’t actively use LinkedIn in college and I have maybe added like 10 people max during my 3 years in Accenture. I have like 100 connections total. How do people have 500+? Do they just add anyone that wants to connect with them? I want to grow my LinkedIn network but I also don’t want to add a lot of random people. TC: 150
1100 connections in 5 years. I only add coworkers. However, I accept all invitations, mostly from third party recruiters. I’ll unfollow (not remove connection) ppl who spam my feed.
Coworkers, friends, and people you meet at events...
Sounds like a Facebook. 🤣
LinkedIn has been trying really hard to be fb since they adopted feed yes.
Alumni network
Just add a connection if it helps you grow. Don't connect with folks who post random posts on LinkedIn.
I add anyone. Except your profile looks suspicious. I don't know why people take LinkedIn so seriously. Or maybe I just don't recognise how it hurts.
It's ok to add those who you don't know if you only allow contacts to see mutual contacts. Otherwise, you have set your network up to be spammed.
Good point. I always unfollow spammers
Anytime I meet someone new who is interesting (new can be coworkers I haven’t talked to before), I instinctively send a LinkedIn request after the call/meet up/etc. The connection stays fresh on our minds that way and it’s not as overwhelming as adding tons of people at once. Doing this strategy really adds up over the years.
Related Q- Is there any specific advantage having 500+ connections or it's just a myth?
Never, you’ll get a lot of spam
Is growing your LinkedIn a criteria for your carrier or employer ?Who cares if you don't have connections as long as you do your job.
Through work. I only add people I know, recruiters will find you regardless...
