Screw it. Don't care anymore. Let Israel take it. One state solution.
Currently exploring opportunities as the inevitable Intel Layoffs will occur. Had someone from a staffing agency reach out. They provided me with more details about the job description so I did my research on the company. The role is still open on their website. Should I just apply to the actual company and skip the agency? How does the agency make money? By undercutting me? I picked a random hourly rate and they're running with it. So I don't know if that was smart or dumb. TC: 116k 🥜
Other the points mentioned by others, the contract jobs by the staffing compared has relatively less interview rounds like 1-2 technical rounds including one with the hiring manager. The timeline from interview to job offer is very less. Direct full time has a lot more steps, since it involves a lot of HR involvement, also harder to get compared to contract. Also you wont get any more benefits like bonus, RSU with staffing companies, compared to full time. And companies find easy to lay you off after the project is done and they no longer need you.
Keep in mind for all consulting: 1. You are the product being sold 2. No matter how well you perform and impress your client, your career growth is linked to your ability to sell more product (people) on behalf of your employer. 3. They will never be billing for crazy amounts per person relative to how some large companies can bring in like $1M per employee. This will limit your TC potential.
The question: should I still be applying to the company, May Mobility, directly or try to let this staffing agency represent me for the roughly same TC stated above?
Just to give you a rough idea, they get around 180$/hr for an experienced hire dv engineer and if you have asked for 120$/hr than 60$/hr is in their pocket. So know your rate and worth.
Have found the staffing company a waste of time. They talk a lot and don’t do much when it comes to getting the job. My understanding is that if that they just getting through the pipeline faster, but you can do that through an internal referral as well
Depends on the type of staffing they are doing. If they are doing permanent, then the staffing agency gets money for "finding you". If you are a contractor, then you are employed by the staffing agency but working for the client in which case, yes the staffing company takes their cut by charging 50$/hr if you are only asking for 40$/hr.
