I just started a job in July where I have flexible hours & can work remotely 100% of the time. And while I can travel all over the world while Im working & have freedom, I took a 50% paycut so I could work on my own biz projects (working in new rold about 25-30 hours a week). the problem is, Ive never had a boss who was such an extreme micromanager. Im not even sure situations like this “should” be handled or adjusted to. Its very Big Brother-y, I cant be trusted to even send an email (I have to bcc manager) and Ive always had total trust of my mgrs & great reviews but I cant seem to do anything right with this one. Has anyone dealt with this before & how did you handle it? Also, looking for new opportunities providing exec support remotely....
I'd suggest being direct with your manager about it, if it's too big of a deal speak to their manager. If you're looking for new opportunities already this is the least you can do.
I did & she was a bit defensive she knows my discomfort & has herself convinced she will improve. I’m trying to make it work but I don’t see this changing. In my experience, micro managers rarely change. Kinda like cheaters! 😃
Great opportunity to learn how not to manage in future if u ever become one
Micromanage the micromanager, has worked for me before, I was also assigned a new manager 😂
I would suggest you bombard him with information and do what ever he says. Once you earn his trust situation should become better. If it still doesn’t then I guess it’s time to look for other opportunities
Run!
Information overload. I had a manager like that once. Bcc’d on every email, sent an end of week very detailed - aka super long - summary email of progress /problems/ plans, and involved them in way more than necessary. After a month or so she finally said the summary email would suffice each week 😊. Good luck to you. If it doesn’t get better I say you have to weigh what you’re willing to put up with for the job.
Did you end up quitting eventually?
Nope. I waited it out. If I’ve learned anything at this company it’s that stuff changes frequently. If you don’t like what’s happening then wait a bit because it will change. The bad boss left and I got a better one 😊
Communicate!! Ask for scorecards and meet them!
I’m facing the same issue at work. My boss is an ultra Micromanager. He gets mad if I don’t copy him on emails or even if I talk to other coworkers and don’t include him. If I finish a project I can’t share it with anyone but him and then he share it with everyone else and he does not even copy me in the emails so it seems like he did it. I’m looking for another job right now.
That is sketch I’m sorry that’s happening . A lot of micro managers are insecure I’m finding. They don’t trust you bc they don’t trust themselves. Good luck!
As others have said you're probably better off quitting while market is on fire.
By quitting !
