How do you file taxes for Backdoor Roth accounts?

I started with a Vanguard traditional IRA and transferred all of the money to a new Vanguard Roth IRA after 2 months. Vanguard sent me 2 1099-R documents earlier this year (with 6k mentioned in both accounts) and I added both to my tax return filing. But the Sprintax system now thinks that I had two accounts and their UI is super confusing. How did you file taxes for backdoor Roth conversions?

Try TurboTax. Great UI.

I'm on visa, and TurboTax doesn't support 1040-NR. So it's not an option for me. :(

Do you pass the residency test for taxation ? If yes, you need to file 1040 and not 1040nr

I think fidelity has a number you can call in for that

Just call Vanguard. They have great phone service and you obviously already have an account there.

For starters (if your a US Citizen) use freetaxusa.com There are videos on how to do this, but you want to look up how to fill out form 8606. If you did the backdoor correctly you’ll be declaring non deductible IRA contributions
